A Sad Event That Rocked a Community

Police were called to Dorsey Drive in San Antonio on a peaceful Sunday after reports of an active shooting.   Jonathan Joss, 59, was discovered near the road and pronounced dead on the scene, despite emergency personnel’s efforts to save his life.   Later, his husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales, stated that the couple returned to their home, which had been damaged by fire, to retrieve their mail.   He wrote on Facebook that they were still grieving their loss when a stranger approached them, yelled homophobic slurs, and opened fire.   Joss pulled Gonzales away from danger, resulting in his death.

Many individuals online have labeled the attack a hate crime, although the San Antonio Police Department has stated that there is currently no concrete evidence linking the attack to Joss’ sexual orientation.   However, investigations are still ongoing, and police have detained Sigfredo Alvarez Ceja on suspicion of murder.

The History of Humor and Representation

People will remember Jonathan Joss for his ability to portray Native American characters with depth and dignity.   On Parks and Recreation, he played Chief Ken Hotate, a character with whom many viewers identified.   Nick Offerman, one of the program’s key stars, said, “We’re just heartbroken,” expressing how unhappy the entire cast was.   Jonathan was a fantastic Chief Ken Hotate, and we enjoyed having him as our Chief.   A horrific calamity.

Joss was also well-known as John Redcorn’s voice in King of the Hill.  The show aired over 250 episodes and is preparing for a revival.   Mike Judge, Greg Daniels, and Saladin Patterson, who created the show, paid tribute, stating that Joss brought Redcorn to life for almost a dozen seasons.   The new show, which will premiere on Hulu on August 4, will miss his voice.

A life filled with love and strength

Joss and Gonzales had recently married on Valentine’s Day.   The couple planned to start again after years of alleged threats and a devastating house fire that killed their three dogs.   The fire and following persecution were extremely upsetting for them, and the visit to their old house was intended to provide a calm moment of closure.   Instead, it resulted in a catastrophic calamity.

Gonzales wrote in his tribute, “Jonathan gave me more love during our time together than most people ever do.”   I was present when he died.   I expressed how much people cared for him.

In a day when representation is more crucial than ever, Jonathan Joss was a shining example of remaining true to his culture and himself.   His death serves as a reminder of the beauty of love and the devastating effects of hatred.   As the investigation progresses, his legacy lives on through the roles he played, the people he inspired, and the love he generously offered.
