The captain of Indian cricket team Rohit Sharma shatters records in India’s second game of the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup against Afghanistan at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
India were set a challenging total of 274 runs by Afghanistan and the Indian opener after a disappointing start against Australia made an emphatic comeback in the game against Afghanistan. Rohit Sharma attacked the bowlers from the first over and set the tone for the rest of the innings.
He was timing the ball beautifully and was at his best smashing the Afghani bowlers to all corners of the ground. The shots over long on and the pull shots over square leg and deep mid-wicket were the highlight of his innings.
He brought up his fifty in the eight over smashing the ball over mid-on and this was his second fifty inside the first ten overs in the last three ODI matches played. Rohit then went on to score 76 runs at the end of the ten over mark and he also became the second player to score Most runs in first 10 overs of a WC innings (since 2003).
Rohit Sharma then went onto surpass the universe boss “Chris Gayle’s” tally of 553 sixes in international cricket and becomes the leading six hitter in World Cricket. He then went onto break another world record breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s record of most hundreds scored in ODI World Cups. Rohit Sharma reigstered his seventh ODI hundred in ODI World Cups. He went past Australian legend Ricky Pointing to become the third player to score 31 centuries in ODI cricket.
With his magical knock India comfortably chased down the target in 35 overs and registered their second win of the tournament.
