How The Case Started Off
The day when Samantha Koenig was kidnapped, started off as any other normal day in her life. Like any other normal day, she was working at the Common Grounds coffee stand in Anchorage. However, the problem started as she finished her work. At that time, a man with a ski mask approached her and ordered a coffee.
Soon after that he tied her hands with zip ties and forced her into a car, placing a gun against her head. This was how she got kidnapped. But at that time, she had little idea about the motive of the kidnapper.
After kidnapping Samantha Koenig, the kidnapper did not kill her immediately. In fact, this is a strange part of the case. In fact, he took her back to her workplace to get her cell phone. Her boyfriend was to pick her up that day. The kidnapper sent him a fake message from her cell phone.
In fact, Israel Kayes, the murderer was a cool-headed one. He took her to his place and tied her in a shed. Then he switched on the radio, in order to cover the screams of the victim. Initially, he said to her that she would hold her a ransom. However, that was a complete lie.
In fact, he took her debit card and cell phone. He then went inside his house to ensure that his children and his girlfriend are asleep. Then he came back to Samantha, drank a glass of wine in front of her and narrated the way in which he would ravish her physically before strangling her to death. He did exactly what he said.
After killing her, Israel left the body there and took a cab at around 5 am to the airport. He had already planned a 2-weeks Caribbean cruise trip with his family.
Another striking fact about the murder of Samantha Koenig is that Kayes captured her ransom photos after returning from vacation. He sent those to her parents, promising them that in lieu of ransom he would keep her alive.
However, by that time, she was already dead. To make her look alive, he used fishing lines to sew her eyelids open in the pictures, applied makeup on her face and braided her hair.
Her poor parents even paid the demanded sum of $30,000, but never got their daughter back. Rather, after getting the ransom, Israel disposed of Samantha’s body in a lake. However, from the transactions that he made using her credit card, the FBI traced and caught the killer.
The body of Samantha Koenig was discovered days after the murder. In fact, in 2012, Israel attempted to escape from the courtroom but failed. Finally, he committed suicide with a blade in jail on December 2nd, 2012. Before his death, he also confessed to killing many other victims. So, Samantha was not his lone victim.
