Scarlett Johansson didn’t settle for a simple veil on her wedding day; she opted for a tent to ensure some privacy. Despite the expected helicopters hovering during her wedding to Ryan Reynolds in 2008, Scarlett made efforts to keep the ceremony on Vancouver Island as secretive as possible. The Hollywood couple tied the knot in a private ceremony after a whirlwind romance that began in 2007, following Reynolds’ breakup with singer-songwriter Alanis Morisette. To what lengths did she go to keep her marriage a secret? We shall learn more.
A Whirlwind Romance
A year later, Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds proposed to Scarlett Johansson once again, and they were both delighted to tie the knot just four months after announcing their engagement. Amid the usual challenges of wedding planning, Scarlett, being a celebrity bride, faced extra pressure from the public eager for details about their big day. The Black Widow actress made it her ‘mission to have a moment of privacy’ during the altar vows with Reynolds. So the two big names in Hollywood did have a whirlwind romance. And it was very cute to watch too for the fans.
Later Reveals on David Letterman
During a visit to Late Night With David Letterman, Scarlett Johansson split the beans on the extraordinary measures she took for a discreet ceremony. She shared with the talk show host, “I never thought I’d be planning my wedding in a dark alley somewhere, but it turned out that way. It was quite secretive. I felt like I was doing a drug deal without all the… fun,” she joked. “I got married in a very remote part of Canada. There were bears and whales and eagles. It was just like Avatar.” It was secretive indeed.
A Samuel Jackson Anecdote
While the bears and whales didn’t spoil Scarlett Johansson’s secretive wedding, a gift from Samuel L. Jackson might have stung a bit. Jackson revealed he gave the couple ’10lbs of bees’ as a wedding present, inspired by Reynolds’ love for nature. According to Jackson, the couple kept bees for a while, enjoying honey for a couple of years until the bees unexpectedly abandoned the hive. Much like the bees, Johansson and Reynolds also abandoned their marital hive less than two years after their 2010 wedding. Now that is an anecdote worth sharing and only he could do that.
