As soon as the trailer of the movie hit the internet, people went crazy over what they saw. In fact, it is one such movie which will surely turn even the smartest person cold. So, if you wish to know more about the film, then join us in the article.
Smile: A Brief Introduction
Well, Parker Finn seems to have planned for his directorial debut for a long time, as it has just hit the bullseye. As the 2022 Halloween approached, Finn landed with Smile.
Well, let me assure you that Smile will not make you smile. On the 22nd of June 2022, he hit the internet with a 2-minute 22-second long trailer of Smile which was enough to scare us out of our comfort zone.
Here you must know that the film is based on a short film by Finn named Laura Hasn’t Slept. What made the trailer more spooky is the strange yet insane acts of the character. It promised a huge thriller and the full movie lived up to that expectation.
The Review
The plot of the movie centres around the strange cases faced by Dr. Rose Cotter. It all starts at a psychiatric emergency ward where Laura, a PhD scholar meets Rose.
Laura, in a wretched state of being states that there is something which wants to kill her. She further explains that the thing started haunting her four days back after she witnessed one of her professors commit suicide using a hammer.
At the end of the scene, we see Laura smiling a psychotic smile at Rose and then committing suicide by slitting her own throat. This kicks off the film and throughout the film we find numerous people killing themselves after that psychotic smile.
However, what is more striking is that we do not see the thing which makes them kill themselves. By linking Rose to a scary past where her mom died by suicide, and by making the evil force invisible, Finn gives a psychological flavour to this horror film.
The greatest USP of the film is the lingering trauma and the fears and stigma that surrounds it. Starting from an interview with a traumatized to an incarcerated survivor of the malevolent entity, Smile has everything it takes to be one of the scariest movies in the recent past.
The relentless and oppressive grimness of the film makes it an asset. Due to the bloody and disturbing horror scenes in the film, it is not advisable for minors and children below the age of 18.
