In the late 1990s, Sonja met her ex-husband, John Adams Morgan, while working at a restaurant in New York City. They reconnected in Aspen and had dinner, and that night he asked her to marry him.

They got married a few months later in 1998. John Adams Morgan’s father, Henry Sturgis Morgan, helped start Morgan Stanley, and his great-grandfather was J. P. Morgan, who started J.P. Morgan & Co. John is 33 years older than Sonja and has family connections to Presidents John Adams and John Quincy Adams.
