Nickelodeon’s little sponge has made a big splash in pop culture. SpongeBob SquarePants has had a feature film, 20 years on TV, and plenty of stuff. This pineapple-dwelling cleaning gadget has naturally been converted into various video games. But they have yet to be as successful as his other works. SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom: Rehydrated, a remake of the 2003 game, was his last 3D adventure on consoles. After the remaster’s success, THQ Nordic may try again.
THQ Nordic revealed at their 10th-anniversary showcase that Purple Lamp Studios, which remastered Battle for Bikini Bottom, would make a new adventure starring everyone’s favorite undersea fry cook.
SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake will take SpongeBob and his friends to new worlds. We have some game details to hold you over despite the quick announcement.
Release Date
The last time we heard anything about the game was during the Nintendo Direct in September 2022, when we had another brief peek of the platforming in action. All that was said about its release date was that it would happen sometime in 2019. On January 31, 2023, SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake will be released.
There is little time left till the game is released after THQ’s December 2022 confirmation of that release date.
Platform Details

One of the peculiar aspects of this game is this. The typical list of platforms and consoles the game will be released on can be seen at the end of the clip; this time, it includes PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
On the one hand, it makes sense for a game like this to be released on consoles from a previous generation, but the absence of any current-gen devices on the list raises questions. If the anticipated development timeframe is accurate, the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S may be added later.
If not, it will still function through backward compatibility, although it seems strange to make this decision two or more years after these consoles were released.
Trailer Glimpse
SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake’s announcement trailer references one of the show’s most beloved episodes. It contains all the iconic characters performing a cover of Sweet Victory while a purple portal opens and drags SpongeBob and Patrick into many locations and times, even changing them. The game’s primary opponents are purple creatures.
The clip goes through numerous locations and depicts SpongeBob in various themed clothes until ending with only the title. THQ Nordic provided further information after the trailer.
Kassandra, a fortune-teller, gives SpongeBob and Patrick Mermaid’s Tears in SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake. These can grant pure-hearted wishes. The couple makes a series of wishes that tear time and space apart, excited to have their dreams given. They travel via weird portals to save Bikini Bottom and its residents.
Prehistoric cave dwellers, knights, and two Wishworlds – Wild West Jellyfish Fields and Halloween Rock Bottom – are expected to appear in the trailer. The soundtrack includes Sweet Victory from the trailer.
Finally, the game’s characters will be voiced by their original actors, even though the trailer didn’t show them. SpongeBob, Patrick, Plankton, Mr. Krabs, Sandy, Squidward, Mrs. Puff, and the Flying Dutchman appeared.
