The UNLV Shooting that happened on Wednesday left three people dead and a fourth one wounded. It occurred on the University of Nevada, Las Vegas campus. The shooter is identified as Anthony Polito, a 67-year-old professor at career college. He has connections to schools in other states.
The shooter died at the scene after a confrontation with the police outside of a university building. The investigative theory on a possible motive was that Polito sought a position at UNLV but was not hired. The suspect had worked for schools in Georgia and North Carolina. The victims included three people who were killed, and the gunfire critically injured another person. He was soon rushed to the hospital, and his condition later stabilized.
Four others were also taken to hospitals due to symptoms of panic attacks. Two law enforcement officers suffered minor injuries during the search for victims. They were also treated. No students were killed in the shooting. All the victims were faculty members. The Wednesday attack claimed the lives of three faculty members.
The victims were professors. According to the Clark County coroner’s office, the list included ChaJan “Jerry” Chang, 64, and Patricia Navarro Velez, 39. The third victim has been identified, but relatives have not yet been notified.
A student told sources that he was in the class when the shooting took place. They saw the law enforcement officers going in. The students have not heard any sound of shooting. Brett Johnsen was in Beam Hall when he heard a loud noise during class, but it didn’t sound like a gunshot, and the professor continued to teach.
Then, an alarm rang, and everyone went into a panic. They were locked in classrooms and asked to get to the ground. The professor then checked outside, got back to the students, and asked them to run as fast as they could.
