At the age of 39, T-Pain has already been honoured with the title of a legend, and rightfully so. The rapper-producer, hailing from Tallahassee, was bestowed with the Legend Award at the 2023 Soul Train Awards, a recognition presented by his longtime friend and personal “life coach,” David Banner.
The honoree and Masked Singer winner shared that when they finally gathered the courage to seek assistance with their life, they approached David Banner. According to them, the words he provided during their three-hour conversation established a completely different trajectory for the direction of their life.
T-Pain also jokingly remarked that it might be “a little early” for him to be presented with the Legend Award. He teased that it was a bit strange, expressing the feeling that he had two or three more songs they could probably do.
He later expressed gratitude to his wife, Amber Najm, in a touching moment. Acknowledging the transformation from the kind of person he was to the person he had become, he expressed thanks to his wife, Amber Najm, in a poignant moment. He appreciated her consistency as the same wife and woman throughout the journey, recognizing her as one of the strongest people he knew.
He expressed gratitude, acknowledging the challenges of the internet, navigating through his shortcomings and flaws, and staying by his side. He noted that managing T-Pain and Faheem was a feat he had yet to figure out for himself, saying, “So thank you, baby.”
Before concluding his acceptance speech, he conveyed a message to new artists aspiring to follow in his footsteps. He conveyed that he didn’t want aspiring artists to pursue success blindly. Instead, he advised them not to base their lives on the approval of the crowd or the pursuit of external validation.
He wanted them to recognize that they already possessed the potential within their minds. He encouraged them to embrace their true selves without apologising, become who they’ve always aspired to be, and not be concerned about others’ opinions. His message was clear:
“If you like it, I love it, and I want some mo’ of it.”
