The lifeless body of 19-year-old Stephen Smith was discovered on a road near the well-known South Carolina estate of Alex Murdaugh. Of notable interest is the assertion by a pathologist that South Carolina teenager Stephen Smith, connected to the Murdaugh family, succumbed to a fatal “single blow to the forehead.”
In July 2015, Smith’s lifeless body was discovered on a county road near the Murdaugh family estate, bearing a nearly 7½-inch fracture in his skull. Initially treated as a hit-and-run, the 19-year-old’s case was later reclassified as a homicide in 2021, prompted by fresh evidence presented during the police inquiry into the shooting deaths of Maggie and Paul Murdaugh.
In 2015, at the age of 19, Stephen Smith’s lifeless body was found on a road near the infamous Murdaugh family estate. Initially labelled as a hit-and-run by authorities, his death was later reclassified as a homicide in 2021 during investigations into the double murder of Maggie and Paul Murdaugh.
Michelle DuPre, a forensic pathologist with a track record of over 3,000 autopsies, has put forth a hypothesis suggesting that a singular blow to the forehead led to Smith’s demise. In an exclusive clip acquired by The Post from “48 Hours,” DuPre explained that considering the location and size of the fracture, she surmises that he was fatally struck while in the roadway.
However, she dismisses the notion that Smith was hit in a head-on manner. Using a foam head as a visual aid, she illustrated the specific location on the forehead where the fracture would have occurred.
DuPre emphasized the significance of the injuries, stating, “The injuries can tell us so much.” She elaborated that Smith’s “linear fracture” suggests that he likely passed away at the exact spot where his body was discovered. Despite some reports speculating that his body might have been relocated, DuPre expressed her scepticism, stating that she does not believe such a scenario occurred.
