World Rally Championship driver Craig Breen dies at the age of 33 in a tragic car accident. Craig Breen was practicing for his upcoming event at a private pre event test at Croatia. The car went off road and crashed to a pole leading to the death of Ireland’s top rally driver.
In the car accident his fellow driver James Fulton surprisingly was unharmed. The race at Croatia was the 2nd event that Breen was about to participate on his comeback to Hyundai. Hyundai motorsport were deeply saddened by Craig Breens unexpected death.
Hyundai Motorsport in a statement said, “Hyundai Motorsport is deeply saddened to confirm that driver Craig Breen today lost his life following an accident during the pre-event test for Croatia Rally. Co-driver James Fulton was unharmed in the incident that occurred just after midday local time. Hyundai Motorsport sends its sincerest condolences to Craig’s family, friends and his many fans.”
Ireland President Aiden Harper conveyed his sincere condolences to Craig Breen. “The Irish motorsport community is numbed by this tragic news. Craig was a world-class driver and a world-class person, ” Harper said.
After joining M-Sport Ford in 2008 and starting as a co-driver, Mr. Breen eventually changed to become a driver the following year. Craig Breen ended up at 2nd place in the Sweden Rally after joining as a part timer in Hyundai Motorsport. Despite rarely competing for a full season, he often participated in the world championship through the years. Breen ended up in 2nd place in six rallies.

“Life can be so fragile and unfair. I can’t believe we’ve lost you mate! Just we’ve been texting and another moment you’re not answering anymore, I’ll miss you buddy so bad, so so bad.” “Your passion for rallying is immeasurable and irreplaceable,” said Craig Breens fellow team-mate Thierry Neuville.
“Everyone loved Craig for his great Irish character and his enthusiasm for our sport,” said Sebastian Ogier. He further added “My thoughts are with his family and friends in this very sad time, we will miss you.”
