In a bid to reduce waste and rely on sustainable fashion, many companies nowadays are coming up with unique inventions to produce environment-friendly products. The best part is no animals are harmed to produce those products for the sake of our benefit. Taking this mission forward, two young men entrepreneurs from Mexico have created an alternative to leather, the first of its kind. Two men i.e. Adrián López Velarde and Marte Cázares have recently launched Desserto, an organic alternative to produce leather out of the cactus plant.
And yes, this vegan leather is aesthetically pleasing as it looks similar to the leather which is made out of animals. Thanks to these men to bringing an end to the animal cruelty.
Background of two entrepreneurs
After finishing their studies and entering employment, Adrián López Velarde and Marte Cázarez found themselves becoming more concerned about the environment around them. To do something unique and meaningful, both of them have decided to quit their job and work toward their mutual goal. To let you know, López Velarde worked in the furniture and automotive sector and Cázarez in the fashion industry. They both have decided to put their energy into making an impact in the fashion world and to come up with something very unique.
What is their ultimate mission?
Their mission is to “to be at the forefront of innovation going beyond the needs of the leather goods market, offering high-quality materials made with sustainable alternatives.” Like many prestigious brands, they also emphasize good quality.
How did this idea come?
Now, you must be thinking how did this idea come to them? In an interview with Fashion United, the founders have explained their idea. They said, “The idea of using this raw material was conceived because this plant does not need any water to grow, and there is plenty of it throughout the Mexican Republic,”. “Also, symbolically, it represents all of us Mexicans and everybody knows it.”
What are the specialties of this vegan leather?
The fake leather, Desserto is up to 50% biodegradable and organic. It is free of toxic chemicals, phthalates, and PVC. It is also very flexible and breathable.
Road ahead
Now after launching Desserto, the duo is planning to produce at least 200,000 linear meters of their vegan leather by 2020.
Bottom Line
Well, I think this is a pretty good innovation introduced to meet the requirements of the fashion industry. The most important thing is no animals are being harmed or killed to produce this vegan leather as the leather is made up entirely out of the cactus plant.
