Kate Micucci, the 43-year-old actress known for her role in “Big Bang Theory,” revealed that she has lung cancer despite never being a smoker. Using humour, she shared this health update with her fans on social media over the weekend.
However, she gained recognition for her portrayal of Lucy, a love interest for Raj (Kunal Nayyar), appearing in seasons 6, 7, and 10 of the popular CBS sitcom “The Big Bang Theory.” Her latest project involves a voice role in the upcoming animated TV series “Angry Birds Mystery Island.”
She has made notable appearances on various TV shows, including NBC’s “Four Kings,” “Scrubs,” “Till Death,” “Raising Hope,” “Steven Universe,” “How I Met Your Mother,” and “Malcolm in the Middle,” among others. Her film credits include roles in “The Last Hurrah,” “Bart Got a Room,” and “When in Rome.” Additionally, she is part of the comedy folk duo Garfunkel and Oates.
In a TikTok video update, Micucci said it was not a TikTok but a ‘Sick Tok.’ She mentioned being in the hospital due to lung cancer surgery the day before, emphasising that it was caught early. Expressing surprise since she has never smoked, she acknowledged that such situations can occur. The positive news she shared was that the medical team caught it early, successfully removed it, and confirmed that she was doing well.
In a hospital gown, the “Raising Hope” actress shared the news, acknowledging that it has been a bit of a journey. While she anticipates moving slowly for a few weeks, she intends to return to her usual activities soon, highlighting her eagerness to resume painting, which she has been missing.
According to the American Cancer Society, lung cancer in non-smokers can be attributed to factors such as exposure to radon, secondhand smoke, and air pollution, among others. Early detection is vital, with early-stage lung cancer treatment leading to a five-year survival rate of 70% or more, as highlighted by the publication.
