A diagnosis confirmed that Kris Kristofferson was suffering from Lyme disease. Earlier, he had been falsely diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Instead, he was suffering from a tick-borne illness known as Lyme disease. About 12 years ago, he was diagnosed with fibromyalgia.
This should have been the first indication that a test for Lyme was warranted. The recent suspect states that he has been infected with Lyme anywhere from fourteen to thirty years because he used to have these chronic muscle spasms, which is a common symptom.
He kept on suffering from the muscle spasm. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Lyme disease is caused by the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi and, rarely, Borrelia mayonii. It is the most common tick-borne illness in the United States. News of Kristofferson’s misdiagnosis was revealed to Rolling Stone back in 2016. It was when the Grammy-Award winner and Golden Globes boxer’s wife offered insight into what led to the country music star’s discovery of the truth.
Meyers describes the painful spasms Kristofferson suffered across his back and legs as “horrible”. He even noted how attempts were made to treat the discomfort. Acupuncture, heat and massage, a spinal cortisone shot by a rheumatologist and a low-dose anti-depressant.
Kris Kristofferson was said to have been facing his final days as per one of his friends. Kris put his California home on the market and was making arrangements for his family. Fans also had a glimpse when he shared a selfie with fellow music legend Garth Brooks in honour of his birthday in June.
No one in Kris’s family has confirmed that his health is declining. He is said to be enjoying life with Lisa in Hawaii. The plan is to be headed into 2024.
