Well, all mattresses would have been good for a peaceful sleep, but heavy sleepers prefer medium-firm mattresses. Because it gives support to the spine and pressure on the hips and shoulders. A good mattress sport for the natural curves and alignment of the spine. Innerspring and hybrid mattresses are the best mattresses for heavy sleepers. They should be handled with more weight.                   

A puffy and lux mattress is good for those people whose weight is less than 230 pounds because the heavier person puts more pressure on the mattress. This can cause the person to sink into the mattress. Firm mattresses are better for those people who sleep on their stomach.                                                     

Soft mattresses are good for those people who love to sleep and sink into their mattresses. Everyone chose firms of their preference but for heavy people medium firm 6-8 are good for peaceful sleep.

Those weighing between 130 and 230 pounds should keep their mattress level in the range of 4-8 on the firmness scale.Those who weigh less than 120 pounds usually like to sleep on a soft mattress. And their range of mattresses is 2-3 on the firmness scale.

I have reviewed numerous mattresses of all sizes and shapes. I found the best mattresses for heavy people. These are different in construction, price and firmness.

1. Memory foam mattress

The memory foam mattress is a well-known type of foam mattress. A memory foam mattress has different types that provide different benefits.

Heavy sleepers prefer memory foam mattresses but may sleep warmer than other materials. The memory foam mattress is a less likely cause of overheating. Material is used in this foam to absorb and release heat.

2. Air mattress

The best air mattress for a heavy person is a heavy-duty mattress. You can adjust its firmness. It can help with backbone problems. Air mattress can carry up to 300 pounds of weight. Different types of sizes and construction may vary in the weight limit.

3. Innerspring mattress

An innerspring mattress is the best choice for heavy people. Heavy people will need a highly supportive coil mattress. Innerspring interior coils made up of lower gauge steel are thicker and denser and provide more support for heavier sleepers.

4. Hybrid mattress

Hybrid mattresses are the best type of mattress for heavy people. In hybrid mattresses, the coil offers more support than the base foams found in all other mattresses and is also able to handle more weight.

5. Futon mattress

As the frame of the futon mattress can hold up to more than 700lbs. It makes the Rocky Mountain futon one of the excellent options for heavy people.

Which range of  Firmness scales best for heavy sleepers?

The measurement scale which you can estimate the softness and firmness of the mattress. This scale consists of 1to 10 counts. This scale contains three types of mattresses, Medium-firm, Medium soft and firm mattress. A firm mattress scale is best for a heavy sleeper.

These are the range of the firmness scale

  • Medium-firm : 5-7
  • Firm: 8-10
  • Medium soft:2-3

Medium-firm mattress:5-7

Is a 5 range on a firmness scale because when you touch it feels soft, it’s a quick response to the pressure. And it is less accessible to sinking. Its core and contouring comfort layer supports your back and balances it and relieves pressure. While there is not much medical data on mattresses, one study found that medium-firm mattresses relieve back pain more than firm mattresses. 

Firm mattress:8-10

This type of mattress ranges from 8-10 on the firmness scale. A firm mattress helps to reduce your back pain and also improve your sleeping posture. When you sleep on a firm mattress the bone absorbs most of the pressure and it reduces the stress from muscles, veins and arteries. And it could allow for more oxygen intake while sleeping.

A firm mattress is a good choice for those people who are suffering from backbone problems.

This mattress is best for heavier sleepers because the body won’t sink too much in this. A firm mattress is not for everyone. Side sleepers may cause a problem of pressure build-up alongside the body.

Medium soft:2-3

The best people for a soft mattress are included who weigh less than 120 pounds and those who sleep on their sides. An extra soft mattress can cause a backbone problem.

A softer medium mattress is a good choice for you looking for softer and very gentle support.
