The film debuted at the 2001 Cannes Film Festival, becoming the first animated feature to do so since Disney’s Peter Pan in 1953.
Makings of a fifth ‘Shrek’ movie are in the works
Sure enough, you’ve spotted an accurate expression here. In November 2018, Universal Studios announced that production had begun on a fifth instalment in the Shrek film series. The CEO of Illumination, Chris Meledandri, is responsible for creating new storylines for each instalment in this series, as well as the spin-off Puss in Boots.
“There’s a terrific lot of fun to be had in that universe, but it’s a high bar to discover a tale that’s genuinely worthwhile”. Chris noted when the project was initially revealed. You’re reading this book because you’re looking for something original and refreshing in the narrative.”
‘Shrek 5’ will be a sequel
Let us inform you that the upcoming Shrek movie will be a reboot of some sort. Does this suggest that there will be no continuity at all? It is still a mystery as of today.
In an interview with Variety, Meledandri spilt the beans about Shrek 5, saying he wants to reunite the original voice performers like Michael Myers as Shrek and Eddie Murphy as Donkey.
Chris explained to the media outlet, “When you look back on those vocal performances, they’re wonderful, and while you clearly could make a case for a complete reinvention, I find myself succumbing to my own nostalgic impulses of wanting to go back to those characterizations. Our challenge has been to come up with an idea that isn’t just another sequel.”
Shrek 5 Release Date
The cast of the upcoming reboot has remained under wraps for the time being. We’ve heard about many versions of the project so far.
Let’s go back to 2004 when Shrek 2 was released in theatres when DreamWorks chairman Jeffrey Katzenberg explained the Shrek franchise’s projected five-movie arc with IGN. He hinted that the fifth instalment of the Shrek franchise would explore the character’s origin story.
According to Jeffrey, the story’s climax will reveal how Shrek ended up in the marsh where he is first seen in the movie. He’s there for a reason, but that has to wait until the next act of the story. ” Are the film’s creators still on the same page? We shall discover more about it in the future.
Predicted Storyline
His script is currently sitting on Universal’s desk, which he authored in 2017. Then, he termed it ” a huge reinvention”.
“I finished the script, which I really, really, really enjoy,” the American screenwriter noted in 2020. I feel very strongly about this. Given that DreamWorks was sold to Universal at the time for more than $3 billion. But I can’t really talk about the major reinvention that’s behind it.”
