During Tuesday night’s “WWE NXT” Spring Breakin’ special, Grayson Waller challenged Carmelo Hayes for his “NXT” Championship. After a hard-fought match, Hayes successfully defended his title. Following the match, Carmelo Hayes issued a challenge to Bron Breakker for the upcoming “NXT” Battleground event on May 28th.
Earlier in the show, Breakker had won his match against Andre Chase. As soon as Breakker’s music hit, he attacked Carmelo Hayes and his friend Trick Williams from behind. The former “NXT” Champion speared the current “NXT” Champion into a wall outside of the ring. This was not the first time that Hayes had been attacked by Breakker. After Hayes defeated Breakker at Stand & Deliver, Breakker turned heel the following Tuesday.
Bron Breakker held the “NXT” Championship from April 4, 2022, when he defeated then-champion Dolph Ziggler on “WWE Raw,” until he lost it. During his championship reign, Breakker defended the title against several wrestlers, including Joe Gacy, Jinder Mahal, Apollo Crews, Ilja Dragunov, and WWE Intercontinental Champion GUNTHER. Additionally, Breakker had two matches against Hayes’ Spring Breakin’ opponent, Waller.
The main event for “NXT” Battleground seems to be the title match between Carmelo Hayes and Breakker. The Tsongas Center in Lowell, Massachusetts, will host the event. It’s worth noting that this WWE event will take place on the same day as this year’s AEW Double Or Nothing pay-per-view.
During Tuesday night’s “NXT” Spring Breakin’ special, Roxanne Perez and Tiffany Stratton both challenged Indi Hartwell for her “NXT” Women’s Championship, but Hartwell successfully defended her title against both challengers. In another match, Cora Jade emerged victorious against Lyra Valkyria, while in a Trunk Match, Tony D’Angelo and Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo defeated Pretty Deadly.
