Since a kitchen is the busiest place of a home, it is common for it to get messy pretty quickly. From food splatter on the walls to spills and stains on the stove and the floor, keeping the kitchen clean at all times is no child’s play! It’s important that the kitchen is clean at all times because not only is our health dependent on the hygiene standards of the kitchen, but a clean kitchen is a delight to work and eat in.
You don’t have to deep clean the kitchen everyday in order to keep it hygienic, there are some tricks and habits you can adopt to make cleaning the kitchen easier and maintaining it that way.
Here are some things that will make cleaning your kitchen a breeze
1. Use a Backsplash
One of the many advantages of backsplash is that it not only is a major design element in the kitchen and adds to its beauty, it also helps keep the walls clean and protects them from oil and food stains!
Backsplashes are usually placed behind the stove and the sink, since that’s where most of the food and oil splashes happen. Since backsplashes are mostly made of tiles and materials that are easier to clean and rid of stains, as compared to walls, it is one of most functional design elements of the kitchen!
2. Declutter and Organise
A cluttered kitchen looks like a mess. Usually we place things within the reach of hand while working to make it easier for us to work. But eventually this can turn into a huge clutter and make a mess. A cluttered space also reduces the storage capacity of the kitchen and makes it look unclean. The trick is to organise things by sorting them into categories. Now what you can do is to organise things in your cabinets according to category and daily use.
Things that you don’t need everyday can be placed in higher cabinets and the everyday use items can be placed into lower cabinets. Moreover, use shelves inside cabinets to avoid a mess and keep things organised in there.
3. Quick Cleanup
While it’s obvious that no one has the time to regularly deep clean a kitchen, you can wipe down your countertops after you’re done using them everyday, and clean spills on the go instead of keeping them for later. Cleaning spills as soon as they happen also help avoid hard stains that might not be so easy to get rid of! Cleaning up after yourself everyday will make it extremely easy to keep the kitchen looking clean and reduce the effort on the deep clean!
4. Use a Compost Bowl
Sometimes while cutting fruits or vegetables we throw the scraps onto the counter to clean them later on. But this is not a really hygienic habit and makes the place look dirty till you clean it up. To avoid wiping down compost every time you use the kitchen, you can use a compost bowl to throw in the food scraps and vegetable peels as you work and just empty the bowl later on. This saves you time and extra cleaning!
It is important to keep the kitchen clean and safe at all times not only to make it easier to work in, but also for the health of your family. Keeping a kitchen clean is no doubt not an easy task but it sure is an important one! Instead of waiting for the right time to deep clean your kitchen once a week or a month, start keeping it clean on the go.
Avoid habits like not wiping the sink regularly or leaving food scrapes on the countertop to clean for later. You can clean spills and wipe down countertops while you wait for the food to cook. And organising things into categories and avoiding clutter will reduce the need of a deep clean too often!
