A gunshot was discharged into an office at the Chiefs’ practice complex when Andy Reid was present there in May 2024, the Kansas City Star reported Wednesday and a source familiar with events told The Athletic.
The Kansas City Police Department confirmed that officers were called to the building and that an investigation is underway. No arrest or charges have been made. According to the Kansas City Police Department’s police report, which was given to PEOPLE, the event happened at around 12:15 a.m.
Police reported overnight security informed officers that a person in the building informed them about a sound and saw what appeared to be a bullet hole in the window.
Police indicated that “there is no suggestion this was a directed incident at anyone or any organisation.”
The Chiefs would not comment on the matter. Team president Mark Donovan will speak at the team’s kickoff luncheon on Thursday.
The Kansas City Star wrote that since the incident, now, Reid works with bulletproof glass protecting him.
Although the incident was allegedly kept under wraps, USA Today revealed that further precautions were taken, such as installing bulletproof windows in Reid’s office.
The inquiry is still under progress.
The Kansas City Chiefs were contacted by PEOPLE for comment, but as of publication, they have not responded.
