If you are using Google Smart Speakers‘ you may be anxious about your voice messages getting saved in Google Assistant. This does not ensure your privacy therefore you may not feel secure. However, there is a new feature introduced termed as Guest Mode that allows you to control privacy. This feature will be available in the Google Smart Speakers. It is same as the Incognito mode. However, there are some differences in it.
If the guest mode in the speaker is ON your interactions with the Google assistant will not get saved in the account. So it is quite secure to interact at that time. However, the personalised experience you receive from Assistant will dim when you activate the guest mode. Know all the details about this amazing feature here.
The guest mode is now presented in Google smart speakers and also other Google compatible models. A user could activate the feature by saying “Hey, Google, turn on Guest Mode.” The Google Assistant has the features to automatically safeguard the privacy of the user. It also provides simple ways to control the data. This mode is useful when you have a company with you. It protects the interactions of the guest.
Moreover, it also keeps their interactions at bay and will not allow it to disturb the user’s personalisation. As it limits the collection of data and performs the functions well it is better for the guest user. It is the best way to secure personal data.
What is the limitation in Guest mode?
The guest mode surely does have some limitations like all the features. It does not allow the Google Assistant to use the account information for instance the calendar and Contact list. Moreover, it also limits the personalisation features in the Assistant that it offers for the user. But for most of the times, you may not notice the limitation.
Justin Brookman the director of privacy and technology policy for Consumer Reports shared that the guest mode is a good offer as it does not collect data that may interfere with your privacy control.
Guest mode deletes more than recordings
The smart speaker collects the information like what you say in an audio file and the written transcript. Google will allow you to see the recordings to delete it. But even if the files get deleted the device can keep the log of your activities. With this information, someone can keep a profile of your behaviour. So if you switch on the guest mode the speaker will not keep a log of your activities. Furthermore, the interactions you performed with the Assistant will get deleted immediately.
You can switch on the guest mode when you wish and switch it off by saying “Hey, Google, turn off Guest Mode”. You can also ask Google if the Guest mode is turned on or not. There are also other privacy features added in Google to assist the user to ensure privacy. For instance, you can ask “Hey, Google, how do you keep my information private?” for answers about security. To delete some files you can say “Hey, Google, delete what I just said”.
These are the ways that the Guest mode feature in Google smart speakers will help the user. It is a great benefit.
