Keep Your Dog Looking Clean

We bet you pay a lot of attention to the health and well-being of your little furry friend. You give them the best food, take them for their regular dose of outdoor bliss, treat them every time they win your heart with their antics, cuddle with them, take them to the vet regularly, and whatnot? But amidst all these, do you often skip grooming them?

Keeping your dog healthy also includes cleaning and grooming them regularly to make them look their best. So, here are some grooming tips that might help you.

Tip #1: Clean them after every walk

Your dog brings dirt, grime, allergens, bacteria, and chemicals home after every walk. Hence, cleaning it after every walk is essential, and more so if your pet enjoys jumping in muddy puddles.

Wash or wipe it depending on how dirty it has been after the walk.

Tip #2: Bathe your dog often

We understand that your dog might not like taking a bath daily. But, you do not necessarily need to bathe it every single day to keep it looking healthy and clean. Bathing your dog too often can rip off the natural oils from its coat.

Ideally, bathe it once or twice a month. However, if your dog spends more time outdoors, you might want to rethink the number. In that case, bathe it whenever it gets dirty or smells bad.

Furthermore, use wet wipes or baby wipes to keep your pet clean in between baths.

Tip #3: Brush your dog

Brush your dog

The coat of your dog depicts the actual picture of its health. A healthy and shiny coat says that your dog is hale. Hence, it is necessary to keep the coat clean and groomed always. Brushing the fur is the best way to keep its coat healthy. Not only does it make your dog look tidy, but also removes dirt and allergens from the coat.

The markets are full of grooming supplies for dogs that suit different situations. You can easily find supplies that suit the fur type and other needs.

Tip #4: Take care of that smell

A bad-smelling coat can be your worst nightmare. The best way to deal with that is by doing dry shampoo. Check out the markets for a good quality dry shampoo to remove the dog smell. Or, try using baking soda and cornstarch. Use a towel to massage them into the coat of your dog to get rid of the smell.

Tip #5: Protect their paws

Winters could be harsh on your dog. Cold weather not only makes it dull and lethargic but also affects it physically. The dropping temperature makes its paw pads dry and rough. Keep the paw pads clean and nourished during the winter. Clean them with warm water and a soft cloth, and then apply a nourishing cream.

Always check its paws after a walk and remove all dirt and debris immediately.

Tip #6: Use a waterproof dog coat

Use a waterproof dog coat

Wet winters can take a toll on your dog’s coat. Consider investing in a waterproof dog coat to protect its fur from getting drenched in rain and dirty in muddy puddles.

Tip #7: Protect them from parasites

Fleas and ticks have a way of reaching your dog’s coat and causing irritation. If you find your dog constantly scratching or biting on the coat, check it for parasites. Use a flea comb to brush the coat and remove fleas. Using apple cider vinegar also helps in repelling parasites.

Finally,

Now that you know how to keep your dog clean, make sure your furry friend is always shining.
