1. Check on them

As a parent, you can give your child privacy in their life however something has to get monitored. Check what kinds of games your child is playing. Is there anything unnecessarily violent or immoral in it? Just note down the names of the games and read about it on the internet. Collect all the facts and think about whether it is suitable for your kid’s development.

You can talk with your kid about it and offer other alternative games instead of it. Only allow your kids to play appropriate games.

2. Make a deal

You can set time limits with your kids. For instance, allow them a certain video game time every day and if they play more than that set a penalty. Then they will also know that you are strict in your rules. Never allow them more hours if they try to butter you up. Keeping strict video game time every day will let your kid know that he is not supposed to play more than the set limit. This habit will stick for life.

3. Know about the serious effects

Kids playing video games for more time are likely to lose their focus on studies and spend less time with family. They also may get less sleep at night because of the excitement of video games. Therefore, if you think about the serious results of video games you will feel stirred to make your kids play games that suit their age. You can even get the help of a counsellor if your kid is adamant.

4. Play with them

You can try to join some games or swimming with your kids. It will help you to spend more time with them. Also, it will help you to know more about your kid. Take some time of your work and spend time with your kids to make them know about you too. Interact with them and become their friends so they will be more open with you.

5. Alternatives to video games

You can offer some alternatives to video games. For instance, if your kid has an interest in music why not buy them a musical instrument of their choice so they will spend more time learning it. If your kid is a sports freak, then help him to join a team. You can also do some craft activities with family members. Moreover, invite their friends to small parties. This will make them freer and take their mind off video games.
