The 40-year-old wrestler, who holds the position of executive vice president at AEW (All Elite Wrestling) and played a key role in founding the company with Tony Khan, The Young Bucks, and current WWE star Cody Rhodes, has officially announced that he is on indefinite hiatus from in-ring competition due to an illness.
A recent report has provided more details about the nature of The Best Bout Machine’s health concern. Viewers were puzzled by Kenny Omega’s unusual lethargy during his promo segment with Golden Jets partner Chris Jericho on the latest episode of AEW Dynamite.
On Friday, Omega conveyed the news to fans via X/Twitter, sharing a photo from a hospital bed. He said he couldn’t sugarcoat the situation and mentioned being out indefinitely in his message.
I can’t really sugar coat this. I’m out indefinitely. I tried to keep pushing past the pain for as long as I could until it became too much. Luckily doctors caught me when they did. I’ll be here so in the mean time, please enjoy wrestling! pic.twitter.com/kn9ZKUgSls

He explained that he attempted to endure the pain for as long as possible until it became overwhelming. Fortunately, doctors intervened at the right time. He assured everyone that he would be present and, in the meantime, encouraged fans to enjoy wrestling.
What Happened to Kenny Omega?
Although Omega did not provide detailed information about his medical condition, wrestling reporter Sean Ross Sapp shared on X/Twitter that there were reports of him being diagnosed with diverticulitis, an inflammation or infection in the digestive tract. Sapp mentioned that Omega had been reportedly ill for a while, even before his recent match with Ethan Page.
Omega sought medical attention after the match, recorded on December 5 and broadcast on December 9. From November 2021 to August 2022, Omega took a medical hiatus, during which he underwent several surgeries, addressing issues with his knees and a hernia.
So, this time, his fans have their fingers crossed. Fans and his fellow wrestlers promptly expressed condolences to Omega and offered support during this challenging period.
