B. Pharmacy: A proven pathway to the pharma industry

Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharmacy) is a four-year undergraduate program divided into eight semesters. This four-year program deals with the study of medicines. The course includes several core subjects that cover all aspects of the pharmaceutical industry, such as pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmaceutics, pharmacology, and pharmacognosy. The program also covers electives including Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Design Thinking, and Data Analytics.

During the course, you will learn about the chemistry of medical compounds, manufacturing of dosage forms (tablets and capsules), the action of drugs on the human body and vice versa, and medicinal drugs obtained from plants and other natural resources.

Upon completing this four-year professional undergraduate degree, you will be able to investigate and analyze drugs and chemicals. You will also gain abilities to discover how chemicals or other substances affect the biological system. Chiefly, you will learn to develop new medicines and the ways to administer them safely in order to cure patients. Please note that pharmacologists are different from pharmacists. As a pharmacologist, your job will be primarily laboratory-based, while pharmacists are responsible for dispensing medications or deciding dosages.

According to PayScale, an entry-level pharmacologist in India makes around INR 494,348 per year, while an experienced professional earns INR 1,120,000 per year. The salary in the pharma sector varies drastically based on experience, level, skills, and location.
