It is not what you say but it is how that you say actually matters. Body language is a very crucial way of communicating. The way you behave can change the entire meaning of what you are actually saying.
The way our body behaves we get in the habit of doing so and it is difficult to break the ice but it is crucial to do so. Slouching, fidgeting, folding our arms are few of the examples of habits that we are unaware of but need to do away with.
Here is the list of body languages that are difficult for us to get rid of but once you are done away with them you will be thankful in the long run.
1. Fidgeting
It is one of the most difficult habits to do away with it. But slowly and gradually with efforts, you can get away with this habit of yours. Fidgeting displays that you are nervous and lack power, as per body language expert and The Power of Body Language author Tonya Reiman.
Running your hands in hair or constantly twirling your locks is distracting for others, and it can damage your hair in the long run. It is hard to quite the habit so grab a stress ball in your hand rather than playing with your hair.
2. Getting in the defensive pose
Some people are in the habit of crossing their arm OR just hunch over as they are not able to handle their body. The posture but makes you look uncomfortable, defensive or untrustworthy.
It is advisable to keep your hands in view when you are talking as, if you the listener is not able to see your hands they will have a feeling that you are hiding the something.
3. Doing weird things with hands
Not keeping your hands properly or doing something with your hands will distract the listener or the onlooker. Avoid hand gestures that will trip you up.
4. Shuffling rather than walking
Humans are judgmental creatures and we judge people right from their profile pictures to something like walking. The way you walk and the air of confidence that surrounds you will affect what people think about you and also even the criminals will not try to attack you or simply rob you.
It is difficult to change the way you walk but with little practice in front of the mirror can bring a lot of difference.
5. Never forget to smile
We all love a smiling face and it radiates positivity and confidence. It shows openness, energy, and warmth. Smile and the world will smile with you and if you do not do so it will present you as grim.
6. Slouching
Stand and sit erect, it is a terrible posture and easy to adapt with difficult to do away with. If you are slouched you look clumsy and it appears that you are not energetic. Improve your posture and health by avoiding your habit of slouching.
7. Mismatching verbal and nonverbal
Verbal communication- if your body language does not match with your words it puts up a very negative impression and you will not be taken seriously by the people.
