The 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine beneath the hood is still the most affordable way to obtain 700 horsepower from a new automobile. It doesn’t get much better than 700 horsepower if you’re looking for sheer power.
The Dodge Challenger Hellcat is approaching retirement age. The 700-hp muscle car works on a model more than a decade ago. Dodge has had to make significant improvements to keep the model current. Hellcat’s recent approach to increasing power has succeeded. Let’s look at them in detail.
2021 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat
The Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat is a 2015 release and the classic muscle car’s redesign. The third-generation Challenger, on the other hand, dates back to 2008. Dodge has produced numerous classic vehicles throughout the years, with the Challenger being one of the greatest. Though some automobile lovers may prefer a historic model year, the current Challenger is no slouch. The most challenging aspect of the 2022 Dodge Challenger is deciding between the numerous trims and variants.






Though Dodge provides a variety of Challenger models and upgrades, the R/T Scat Pack is the most outstanding all-around trim. According to Edmunds, the R/T Scat Pack, like other exceptional models, has the ideal mix of features and attributes that most shoppers appreciate. However, it is not inexpensive. The R/T Scat Pack starts at just less than $47,000, while the R/T Scat Pack Widebody begins at $53,000.
Nonetheless, Edmunds claims that the Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack is the most popular trim. And it’s simple to understand why. The primary appeal of a muscle vehicle is the muscle, and the R/T Scat Pack has enough of it. Its 6.4-liter V8 produces 485 horsepower and 475 pound-feet of torque. The Challenger’s strong engine lets it go from 0 to 60 mph in 4.2 seconds and peak at 176 mph.

For everyday driving, the Dodge Challenger SXT has plenty of power
Having a Hellcat with a 6.2-liter V8 engine producing 717 horsepower via the rear wheels is fun. With that type of power, though, things may quickly become erratic.
Although the 3.6-liter V6 engine in the Dodge Challenger SXT only produces 303 horsepower, it is plenty for daily commuting and the odd foray onto the highway. According to Car and Driver, the Challenger SXT could hit 60 mph in 6.2 seconds from a standstill. That’s quite good for a V6.
The Hellcat is substantially more expensive than the Challenger SXT
Without discussing the price, we can’t compare the base Dodge Challenger SXT trim level to the big-dog Hellcat. According to Dodge, the price of the basic model Dodge Challenger is $30,825. That’s not terrible considering how much a more modest Honda Accord costs.
Whereas the Hellcat starts at $68,320, which is more than double the price of the SXT model. You don’t need a supercomputer to figure out that the SXT model is a decent buy for the power it delivers.
The Challenger SXT is more fuel-efficient than the Hellcat
Do you want to go around in a 717-horsepower Challenger that gets an EPA-estimated 16 mpg? Sure, it’s strong, but that strength comes at a cost when you stop at the gas station every few days.
However, if you get a Challenger SXT, you will have superior gas mileage statistics of 19 MPG on city lanes and 30 mpg on an open highway. It’s not as fuel-efficient as a Toyota Camry, but it does make Challenger SXT seem a lot better.
The Challenger SXT is available in AWD Version
If you live in a snowy location, the Challenger SXT trim can get you where you need to go with its optional AWD setup. You won’t be able to drive through heavy snow, but having traction on all four wheels will be helpful when the road has a white snow layer.
If you own a Challenger Hellcat, only available in rear-drive configuration, be prepared to spin the wheels and go nowhere fast.
