Air conditioners are an essential part of the lives of those regions that face extreme temperatures in summers or even in winters. Ours is no exception. 1. AC is not turning on
The most common problem of AC is that it’s not turning on. There can be several reasons behind this. Like- thermostat issues, circuit breaker tripped, low on refrigerant, clogged air filters etc. The first thing you need to do when your AC doesn’t turn on is checking your thermostat batteries. If the batteries are dead, replace them. If they are working, check the thermostat setting to see whether the cooling mood is on with your desired temperature settings. If it doesn’t work check the circuit breaker and reset it by switching off and then on.
2. Leaking water inside
Due to delayed maintenance water leakage in indoor units occurs. The reason can also be that the condensate drain of the system gets clogged up. Another possible reason for this AC problem could be that your condensate pump may have broken down completely and require replacement. You can fix this problem with the help of a technician or you can solve it yourself at home. By using a wet or dry vacuum the condensate pipe can be unclogged. You can also pour 6 ounces of vinegar in the drain line to kill fungi or algae build-up. If it doesn’t work consult an expert.
3. Leaking water outside
Sometimes, you might find water outside the house right under the compressor of your air conditioner. There can be several reasons for this like- a dry air filter, broken condensate pan, bad AC seal, improper installation etc. After finding out this issue you should turn off your air conditioner and disconnect the power supply immediately. This problem should be taken care of timely otherwise things can get tricky. Call a professional for such a type of air conditioner problem.
4. Refrigerant leak
Refrigerant is the actual mechanism through which an AC cools your home. A refrigerant leak is one of the most common AC unit problems and it can reduce air conditioner efficiency. If the leak is minor, top up the refrigerant and apply a minor fix. If it is a larger fault within the pipes, the whole thing might need to be changed. While recharging the refrigerant, be careful not to overcharge or undercharge the refrigerant.
5. AC making noises
If you hear loud AC noises coming from your unit, then it is a sign of a problem. They must be annoying, but they help you to figure out what problem your AC is facing before this issue gets worse. You should never ignore the AC noise issue and contact an HVAC professional immediately. A technician will help you figure out what the sound means and fix the underlying issue.
