Bill Maher, the host of ‘Real Time with Bill Maher,’ criticized certain prominent Democrats for engaging in what he termed “shadow campaigns” for the 2024 presidential election. He praised Rep. Dean Phillips, a Democrat from Minnesota, for his open declaration of a primary challenge against President Joe Biden. During a recent episode of his show, Maher expressed his approval of Phillips’ candidacy, drawing parallels between Biden and the late Supreme Court justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who remained in her position too long, allowing former President Trump to appoint her successor.
“We both struggle with the same thing. We like Joe Biden, right? And we think he’s done a good job. Ruth Bader Ginsburg did a good job and did not know when to quit, and that’s why you’re here,” Maher remarked to Phillips.
Maher also accused other Democrats, like California Governor Gavin Newsom and Vice President Kamala Harris, of being secretive about their presidential ambitions and conducting their activities discreetly.
“I mean, Gavin Newsom, our governor, seems to be all over the world,” Maher said.”
During the conversation, Maher gave Phillips credit for being forthcoming with information and willing to state his intentions in public. Encouraged, he told him to “just do it.”
As per Phillips, there are currently “21 of us on the ballot in New Hampshire,” and he has encouraged other Democratic candidates to enter the primary. In the US, anyone who meets certain prerequisites is eligible to run for president.
But Phillips pointed out—and other political observers agreed—that a lot of prospective candidates are holding off until 2028. In order to address the urgent issues facing the country, he stressed the need for more candidates and voiced concern about the lack of competition in the Democratic primary. He also drew attention to the political-industrial complex’s and Washington’s culture of silence, warning that it could have grave repercussions. Phillips pushed his colleagues to take into account the significant shifts in the political environment and to take appropriate action in light of the current difficulties.
In summary, Bill Maher criticized Democrats for running shadow campaigns for the 2024 presidential election while commending Dean Phillips for his open challenge to President Biden. Maher called for more transparency and competition within the Democratic primary and warned against political complacency in the face of evolving political dynamics.
