Our home ages with us, and sadly, become dull and tired over time. Our bathrooms are used every single day and can experience heavy footfall. Whilst a bathroom could do with a makeover, not everyone can afford a full renovation, or cope with the inconvenience it can bring. Fortunately, there are ways to improve its general look without breaking the bank. We’re going to consider some suggestions right now.
Get a New Toilet Seat
Toilet seats can develop rusty hinges over time, and wobble around when the seat is put up or down. Most people would say that a replacement should be comfortable, elegant, of good quality, and long-lasting.
One dilemma that can exist is the battle between cleanliness and warmth. Plastic toilet seats can easily be wiped and nothing will stick to them. However, they can be cold to the touch and this can become worse if the room is unheated. By way of contrast, wooden toilet seats are warm and don’t get much colder in unheated bathrooms. When it comes to cleanliness, however, things can stick to the wood and adverse moisture can be absorbed.
Sort the Tiling
Over time such things as dirt and limescale build-up in between the tiles. Sometimes all that is needed is to give them a good clean and re-scale. A fresh coat of grout may be needed in some situations, in which case a person needs to choose a brand that prevents mold and stains. If new tiles are required, however, this is not an easy job for a layman. If someone can afford professional help, it may be worth the investment if they want the room to look good.
Refresh the Room With Paint
A fresh coat of white paint can make the room look clean and bright once more. Most bathrooms are relatively small, so the costs should be cheaper than for most other rooms in the house. Be sure to use mold-resistant emulsions due to the high level of damp within the room.
If there are items of furniture in the bathroom, why not paint them too? If the room is totally white, a darker color on the floor or wall cabinets may help them stand out.
Anyone who is blessed with a bathtub that is not enclosed within a ‘box’ can consider painting the outside with a fresh coat of white. It’s essential to research this, however, as different coats will need to be applied.
Provide Plenty of Storage
If things are thrown everywhere in the bathroom, there could be two reasons: either people need to be trained to be tidy, or more storage is needed! Something as simple as a few baskets may provide some much-needed storage for dirty clothes or towels. Failing that, look for wall space that could hold shelves or ledges – or even a new wall unit.
Think about beds that provide storage underneath: they maximize a potentially dead space and provide a home for items that would otherwise be left on the floor. In a similar way, there may be dead space under the bathroom basin. Consider having a storage cabinet fitted underneath. If it is done well, it will look custom-made like a fitted kitchen. When everything has a place, the room will be tidier and it will be easier to get your hands on things when they are needed.
Improve the View
Anyone who has changed their room lighting will know how effective this can be. Consider having a dimmer switch installed in the bathroom. A winter bath in the evenings will feel far more restful. If the walls are blank, why not put up some pictures? If there are already some, consider replacing them. It’s amazing how such a simple change can affect the overall impression of the room. Look at the window curtains if you have them. If they are looking tired or dull, why not spend some money on new ones?
Other Upgrades
Why not invest in a new set of towels and a bath mat? If the toothbrushes are all over the place, buy a new holder for them. The shower head could be replaced with a more environmentally friendly version that uses less water. A new shower curtain may be a good idea too.
Make sure that every addition to the bathroom fits in with the general decor. Replace anything that looks out of place. If professional help is needed in order to create your dream bathroom, be sure to get plenty of quotes, and seek personal recommendations. When the room has been spruced up or renovated, everyone will enjoy the benefits on a daily basis.
