Burke stressed in her elucidation that her remarks were misinterpreted and that she and Derek Hough never had an extramarital affair. She emphasised that their relationship was strictly professional and that their on-the-dance floor chemistry was a result of their commitment to giving engaging performances. “It was a love affair — in the ballroom, in my opinion,” she continues. “If you’re lucky, you’re delivering a love story to the audience on the dance floor, and you can’t fake that. On the dance floor and off the dance floor, passionate moments are shared.
