September has arrived, the kids have gone back to school and the long summer days are drawing to an end. There’s a cool, crisp chill in the air and most of us are wanting to get back inside our homes and enjoy the cozy night season ahead. The changing leaves, Halloween, soon enough it will be the countdown to Christmas; moving through to autumn and winter is always a magical time of year!
Here are some of the things you can do to make the most of the cooler weather and enjoy a night in at home.
Switch up Your Decor
Make your home as inviting as possible by switching up the decor. You don’t need to pull out the paintbrushes, just a few simple accessory changes can make all the difference. Change up cushion covers to warmer autumnal shades and prints. Introduce fall scented candles and air fresheners to give a seasonal scent.
If you have a gallery wall at home, changing your pictures to display more autumn and winter themed pieces is another simple DIY. You can find cute decor pieces like plaques and candles and hot chocolate stations to decorate your home with too so have fun with it.
Pile on soft blankets onto your sofa, if you invest in some nice ones you can store them in vacuum bags in your attic over the summer months and bring them out every year around this time. The same applies to winter duvets and autumn/ winter bedding.
Cook Some Comfort Food
The cooler months are all about comfort food. Chances are you’ve been enjoying refreshing salads, picnic food and barbeques over the summer- now it’s all about those hearty classics. Soups, stews, pasta bakes, roasted meats with all the trimmings- delicious.
A great way to cook these kinds of meals is in a crockpot or slow cooker, so get yours out of the back of the cupboard and dust it off. You can have fun cooking by throwing the ingredients in in the morning and leaving it on low. By the time you get home you have a fully cooked meal ready to go, just plate it up and enjoy to kick off your cozy night.
The best thing about that is you don’t need to be a chef or spend much time at all putting it together. Get yourself a recipe and as long as you put in the right combination of meat, vegetables and seasonings you’ll have a mouthwatering meal.
Enjoy Some Relaxation Time

Have a think about what it is that makes you feel most relaxed. Curling up with a good book? Journaling or meditating, indulging in a hot bath with some pampering products? Perhaps you enjoy the occasional alcoholic drink, something like a Baileys hot chocolate or an Irish coffee is perfect for this time of year.
If it’s a smoke that’s your vice, follow this to find different types of tobacco. When you’re planning a cozy night, invest this time in yourself and the things you genuinely enjoy to really kick back and unwind.
What makes the perfect cozy night at home for you? Are you looking forward to doing this now that we’re into the later months of the year?
