What is the cost of EdbMails EDB to PST converter?
Free Demo Version
EdbMails offers both the free demo version and the licensed version making it extremely versatile for those who want to test the product and know its features. You can download the demo version free of cost from the website without providing any credit / debit card information. What’s more attractive is that the free demo version comes with free 24/7 customer support to answer any questions you might have with the tool.
Using the free version, you can recover and preview all the contents of an offline EDB file (without limitations) and convert 30 mail items from each folder to PST file format. You can preview individual mail contents and export them to HTML, EML and MHT which is pretty handy when you quickly want to view mail items from an inaccessible EDB file.
Licensed Version
The licensed version of the tool is neatly categorized in three different editions or plans depending on how you want to use the tool. The personal edition lets you recover and convert unlimited EDB files and its mailboxes to PST with all the functions of the tool. There are two flavors in the personal edition depending on how many computers you want to install the software. The basic personal edition allows installation upto 2 computers and is priced at $99 USD.
The advanced personal edition allows installation upto 10 computers and is priced at $149 USD. This edition is ideally suited for personal and home use with smaller conversion projects. EdbMails supports Credit, Debit Card, Paypal or even Wire Transfer payment methods.
If you want to migrate the EDB mail contents to Office 365 or live Exchange (in addition to PST conversion) and would like to install the software on unlimited PC’s, you must go with the Corporate premium edition. This license costs $199 USD and is ideally tailor-made for large, small, medium and corporate enterprises, Government and Education institutions undertaking large scale conversion and migration projects.
There is another version namely the Technical Edition which costs $299 USD and allows all the functionalities of the Corporate edition along with the installation of the software in multiple locations. This is best suited for data recovery companies, repair and maintenance firms where the license can be used for providing data extraction service to your customers. EdbMails license is a one time license and does not recur yearly or monthly. This is very useful considering the commonness of data corruptions and the importance of recovery and conversion.
We also found this feature of EdbMails pretty useful. You do not require any license key to activate or use the software. The license is tied to the email address you use during the purchase.
EdbMails offers a Bundle Edition for users looking to recover and convert EDB, OST and PST all together from one place. The bundle edition is again categorized into personal, corporate and technical with the aforementioned features respectively. That is for example, if you purchase the bundle technical edition ($499 USD), you can recover and convert EDB, PST and OST files and migrate the contents directly to Office 365 and live Exchange. Using this license you can also install the software on unlimited PC’s, in multiple locations, recover and convert unlimited mailboxes and use the license to provide data recovery to your customers.
Another interesting aspect is that the tool offers flexibility in the license plans and allows you to change from lower editions to the higher editions easily. All the editions include free 24/7 customer support and lifetime updates at no additional charge. In comparison with other similar software tools on the market, EdbMails scores a 5 star rating for its affordable pricing plans that are suited for everyone.
Getting started with EdbMails EDB to PST converter
If you are new to the tool, you can first start by downloading the free trial version from the website. We first explain the free recovery feature of the demo version and then proceed with the licensed edition. If you need to test the demo version, select the option ‘Start Your Free Trial’. From here, you can select the EDB to PST option to recover and preview the contents from an offline EDB file.
EDB to PST conversion
Here, we review the complete EDB to PST conversion process along with the migration to Office 365 and live Exchange server using a Corporate Premium Edition of the software. The free version allows conversion upto 30 items from each folder. For this purpose, we logged in with the Email ID and Password we used during the purchase. The tool displays a clean interface where you can choose multiple options. But for now we go with the option EDB to PST, EDB to Office 365, EDB to Exchange, EDB Public folder.
We provided an offline EDB file of size 1TB from a 2010 Exchange server version. The tool recovered all the contents comfortably in a weeks’ time and displayed them in a nice tree-view format. We found this feature really impressive in that it displays the contents exactly like Microsoft Outlook and allows you to even preview the individual mail contents. At this point, you can export it to different formats such as EML, HTML and MHT or continue with the PST conversion process. The EDB to PST conversion does not require any internet connection, Exchange server services or connection to Active Directories.
We decided to convert the entire EDB file contents including attachments, folders, tasks, contacts and calendars to PST. After we selected the contents and clicked Export to PST, the tool displayed all the mailboxes and asked for the location to save the PST file. Make sure you have enough space to save the output PST file. For this test, we did not use any filters or the PST split option and went with the complete conversion process. The tool extracted the 1TB source EDB file within minutes.
In the next phase of our test, we used the same EDB file but selected the Split PST file option to split the target file in 20 GB chunks. For this operation, the tool took exactly the same time for the conversion as that of the complete 1TB file.
EdbMails offers a free PST merge tool in its list of freebies which we also found quite practical. We were able to merge the split PST files back into one complete PST without any issues.
EDB to Office 365
Next, we tested the migration with a 1TB EDB file having different sized mailboxes such as 20 GB, 50 GB and so on to Office 365. To migrate the contents you require internet connection and we used a T1 connection on a 64 bit Windows 10 PC. One of the nice things is that the tool performs a direct migration between the source and the target without intermediate hops. We found this feature to be quite helpful when other tools do not provide a direct migration between the source and target.
On the main interface, you need to select the option Migrate to Office 365 and you are presented with an interface to login to Office 365 account. You can select between Auto or Manual Registration. We proceeded with the Auto Registration.
In the next screen you can choose among the options of connecting to Mailboxes, Public folder or Archive Mailbox. We selected Mailboxes and proceeded further where you need to login to your Office 365 account.
EdbMails has an option to login using secure OAuth 2.0 modern login making it highly secure. The application does not store any credentials and instead you are directed to the standard Office 365 login screen where you need to enter the credentials.
Accept the permissions and you can choose to load mailboxes automatically, using a .CSV file or load mailboxes from a previously stored list if you have already logged in earlier. We proceeded with the option to load mailboxes automatically and the tool displays a list of Office 365 mailboxes you have on your account.
In the next screen, you can either map mailboxes automatically (which the tool does if a match is found in the mailbox name), choose to map from an earlier mapping or map the mailboxes manually all by yourselves. We selected the option to map mailboxes manually.
In the next step, the application displays the mailboxes where you can map to the respective mailbox on the target. You can click on the drop icon where you have two options. Either you can select the target mailbox from the existing list or create a new mailbox on the target server. If you prefer to create a new mailbox on the target server, you need to enter the mailbox name, enter a password. We choose the option to select the target mailbox from the list.
The tool prepares for the migration and exports the contents of your source EDB file to the Office 365 account that you have chosen. We were able to successfully migrate all the contents and the application generates a detailed log report after the process is complete. EdbMails performs incremental Office 365 and live Exchange migration. This means that if you use the same EDB file with newer contents and perform the migration from the same PC, only the newly added items are considered for the migration without creating duplicates of the already migrated items. For transferring 2GB mailboxes the application took approximately 1 hour.
EDB to live Exchange
We tested the EdbMails tool using the same file to perform migration to a live Exchange server 2019. You can also migrate to an On-premise or a Hosted Exchange server. We proceeded with the option of connecting using Global Admin User and connecting to mailboxes. You can select to migrate the contents to a Public folder or Archive mailbox if you wish to.
In the next step, you can use the Default Connection or Autodiscover Email option. In the Default Connection, you need to enter the IP address or the Exchange server domain name along with the Exchange server version you are using. If you want to bypass this option, you can select Autodiscovery, where you can connect to the target Exchange just by using your username and password. We used the Auto Discovery option and connected using our Exchange login credentials.
The remaining steps are similar to how you proceed for Office 365 migration where you can choose to load mailboxes automatically, from a .CSV file or from a previously stored list. Once the mailboxes are loaded, you can choose to perform the migration by mapping them manually or allowing the tool to map based on the closeness of the mailbox names. EdbMails took approximately 1 hour to migrate 2GB mailboxes.
