Ed Boon, the co-creator of Mortal Kombat 12, said that Ellie will not be a playable character in Mortal Kombat 12. Earlier there was some talk of her appearing as a guest character. But it appears this is not going to be the case now. Since the series rebooted with Mortal Kombat 9, guest characters have been a fan favorite. Owing to the cheekiness of their appearance. They play an integral role in the post-support launch of every Mortal Kombat title since then. But reports suggest that Mortal Kombat 12 is not going to be the same.
Possibilities of a Fan Favorite
The ninth mainline entry in the series had two very notable characters in the game. Freddy Krueger is the primary antagonist of the popular slasher movie A Nightmare on Elm Street, and Kratos is the protagonist of the hugely successful God of War series. These guest characters became immensely popular with players all over the world owing to their popularity and the creators also decided to factor in on it. Ever since the launch of MK9, guest characters have been a staple. From Jason Voorhees to Spawn and Joker to Predator, everyone has participated in a duel to the death at some point in time.
MK12 has been confirmed at last, and now the search is on for potential guest fighters. Fans keep submitting list after list of fighters that they want for the game, but ultimately it rests in the hands of the creators. And one character continues to receive most of the buzz all the time. Ellie from The Last of Us is one of the most loved characters in the history of gaming. And her fame is pretty well earned. After all, her on-screen presence warmed the hearts of thousands of gamers all across the world.
No Reason to Get Hasty
Here is a bit of an easter egg for you. In the seventh episode of the ongoing The Last of Us series on HBO, we got to see Ellie and her friend enjoying Mortal Kombat in an arcade. Ed Boon appreciated the gesture, which in turn led several fans to believe that she would make an appearance on Mortal Kombat 12. However, this seems to be a wishful fantasy and nothing else at this point in time. In fact, one person even asked Boon to get Ellie on Mortal Kombat 12. To this Boon responded that he did not want to see any kind of fatalities pulled off on her.
Well, now it seems the MK fans can cross one MK character off their lists and breathe a little easy. Ellie is a fan favorite. While she can hold her own in a fight, she cannot face off against the roster of legendary, deadly fighters in the game and come out unscathed. But once again, NetherRealm and WB Games are yet to announce the latest entry in the series. Who knows, we might just yet see a character we like in the duels.
