It’s important to keep your employees motivated – especially when they work from home. Employers need to support their remote team, whether its daily video calls or new targets. While remote working has numerous benefits, it can be difficult to work productively in the comfort of your own home. Your bed is just a few steps away, and it looks so cosy. Motivation can keep your employees working at their best and achieving outstanding results. As soon as motivation drops, employees can start to feel burnt out and run down. 

Follow this quick guide to keep your employees on top of their game.

Set clear targets

Employees working from home need clear goals to work towards throughout their day. Goals help us manage progress and keep track of where we are supposed to be. You might have blasted through your daily goals in the morning and slacked off in the evening. As long as you meet your deadlines on time, it shouldn’t matter when you do the work. A strict 9-5 schedule doesn’t always work for remote employees. They may need to factor in the school run and childcare into their professional routine. Listen to your employees’ concerns, and try to be flexible.

Regular meetings

Many remote employees miss the teamwork and collaboration of the office environment. Working from home can be isolating at times. You should schedule meetings during the week to catch up with your colleagues and check on their progress. You can talk about how they find remote work and the current project. 

Events

Social events are a great way to build professional relationships and boost motivation. You could set up virtual events for employees to attend across the country. You could do a quiz night or cocktail making class over Zoom. Your team can get to know each other and hopefully collaborate in the future.

Progression 

Your employees should have plenty of opportunities for progression in the workplace. They can make their way through the stages of progression and achieve their goals along the way. Talk about their long-term career goals and how they can get there. 

Benefits

Your employees need to feel valued and appreciated at work. They are far more likely to keep working hard if their efforts have been noticed. When someone impresses you or hits a target ahead of schedule, make a note. You could thank them for their hard work with a voucher, bonus or card. You could even send a gift basket to your employees to celebrate a holiday or anniversary. For example, you could send each employee a chocolate egg and bottle of wine with a thank you card at Easter. 

Make sure your employees feel motivated and ready to work.
