I promise this skincare post won’t be ‘old news’ for you. When you’re done reading, it will be a child’s play to choose the best natural face wash or cleanser suited to your skin. It is coming from someone who never admired a sophisticated lifestyle but realized that self-care isn’t about that. It’s a medically proven fact that our physical health directly affects our mental health, relationships, work, and almost everything.
Being all about happiness, today I own all those things that keep me healthy and happy.
The Day of Determination
When I heard about the clean beauty movement, I was confused.
“Umm… could a natural skin cleanser be powerful enough to handle my PCOS acne?” “Should I be hopeful and loosen my pockets a little?”
But then I thought if I could shop 3 sneakers, 2 jackets, and a cupboard in one day, skincare could be a fruitful deal (brilliant me). After all, those painful bumps and sticky skin were bringing out the worst in me.
Let me mention my current favorite right in the beginning. Then I’ll begin with the story of how I reached here.
It’s Ratrani Clay Cleanser by Nourish Mantra.
Okay, let’s go!
Day 1: First of all, skin cleanser or face wash?
I started by typing in “best natural face wash.” What do I realize?
Face washes are usually very foamy, but skin cleansers fall in different categories. They come in various forms- gel, clay, lotion, and not every cleanser is foamy. Each texture, formula, and ingredients target different skin types and concerns.
- Gel-based skin cleanser is usually helpful for all skin types, especially normal and dry skin. This texture isn’t very drying.
- A clay-based cleanser (my savior) is way more effective for combination, oily, and acne-prone skin. Clays are super powerful oil extractors and skin purifiers.
- Lotion-based cleansers are typically helpful to remove makeup, dirt, and surface impurities. You don’t even have to wash with water. Apply it and wipe with cotton or face wipe.
- Cleansers based on active ingredients: Now, this is something very personal. Go for actives to address specific issues like stubborn acne, aging, marks, and tanning.
Caution: If you have sensitive skin, you may use any type of cleanser. Sometimes your skin can be dry and other times oily. Be watchful of too much fragrance and alcohol. Look for natural skin cleansers with a mild aroma and check if you’re allergic to any of the ingredients. Remember, the patch test is your only true friend.
Day 2: A shocking relation between dry and oily skin
While exploring natural face care products, I read on a blog that dryness can make your skin very oily.
“Wait, what? Dryness leads to oily skin?”
“What does this even mean?”
It actually means when our skin becomes dry, it will try to moisturize itself. Skin can’t produce water, so it starts producing excess oil. (Wow, our skin has a conscience but sadly not a smart one). This natural oil is called sebum, most evident in our face and scalp.
Earlier, I used to buy natural skin cleansers right after viewing a few impressive ads and videos. I didn’t think about reading the ingredients list and researching the brand. The result? Wasted tears, empty pockets (cries in the corner). Such products have never been able to solve my skin concerns completely. My skin is oily and acne-prone, but some natural skin cleansers dehydrated it.
The ideal skin cleanser
Excess oil, dirt, sweat, smog, pollution – all are sticking to your skin. These impurities block pores, dirty skin, acne, and dullness. The best natural face wash or skin cleanser would be the one that can deeply cleanse your skin while balancing its oil and keeping it hydrated. In any case, it should never steal your skin’s natural moisture and oil. Look for natural skin cleansers that say:
- Non-drying
- pH balancing
- Hydrating
- Moisturizing
Day 3: The big day
After hours of research, I found the first natural skin cleanser perfectly matched all my needs. After using it twice a day for two weeks, I was overwhelmed with joy: fewer pimples and smoother skin. I still had to get rid of those acne marks.
After a few more days, I started exploring natural face serums. They are actually the right way to get proper skin treatments. Since that day, I have only been friends with natural face care products.

If you have questions like What’s so special about ‘natural’ products?
Keeping safety on top, many natural face care products are way better. Be it a natural skin cleanser, cream, or serum. When prime organizations like the National Library of Medicine publish such scary facts, we are no one to deny it. Their research shows that regular skin care products usually contain endocrine-disrupting chemicals like formaldehyde, phthalates, and parabens.
These are discussed to cause reproductive issues and cancers. They start to accumulate in the body through the skin with constant use. Now, you can either close your eyes or run away from danger. (Being smart, I chose the latter.)
I can’t help but mention that my world turned upside down when I read all that research. We never knew all of this when I was a kid, and everyone used such risky products for years. When I think about it, it still haunts me. What if that contributed to my PCOS?
Natural skincare products with zero toxins are the only answer for pure body detox, nourishment, and protection.
But wait…
Natural isn’t enough
If you see a product labeled as a natural skin cleanser, this should be verified and certified. The brand or the product should have at least one of these certifications: All-natural, Vegan, Organic, or Ayurvedic because natural can mean anything. Most governments have no strict regulation about how much percentage of natural ingredients should be there. A company can claim that the product is natural with just one or two natural ingredients.
To verify, look for certifications like:
- PETA Certified Vegan products
- COSMOS Organic
- Ayurvedic products are certified by the Ayush organization. It’s the Indian ministry of alternative medicine, the only authority to verify products that are ayurvedic-only.
Why do I prefer brands like Nourish Mantra?
I am an explorer, and Nourish Mantra is a unique brand I instantly fell in love with. They innovate face, hair, body, and wellness products for every skin with a holistic wellness approach. Nourish Mantra is one-of-a-kind to blend Ayurvedic ingredients with natural vitamins, earthly minerals, essential oils, and fruity AHAs. Certified as ‘vegan and cruelty-free by PETA, the brand resembles my way of living- When we feel good, we look good. They support that everything that goes on inside our mind and body reflects on our skin.
I will never forget and hail the day when I bought my first natural skin cleanser. It was an enlightening day that made me dive deep into the world of natural skincare rituals. I tried some revolutionary face serums, exotic bathing bars, and all things luxurious and natural!
Currently, my skin radiates so much freshness, softness, happiness, and a natural glow. I can’t even explain in words.
