What is my location? Are you looking for your present location’s precise address or GPS coordinates? Obtaining your current location is relatively simple if you’re using Google Maps. Further, to find out what is my location, follow the instructions in this post on how to use Google Maps on a computer, phone, or tablet.
Mobile
To know what is my location on your mobile phone, follow the steps below:
- On Your Smartphone or Tablet, Open Google Maps.
On the home screen (iPhone/iPad) or in the app drawer, it is the map icon with a “G” in the top-left corner.
- If you haven’t turned on Location Services, do so by following the prompts that appear on the screen.
- In the default map mode, a map graphic overlays street names. Moreover, a satellite or terrain map can be accessed by tapping the two overlapping diamonds in the top-right corner, then selecting Satellite or Terrain.
- Find The Blue Dot on The Map.
The tiny blue circle indicates your current position. Further, the direction you face is indicated by the soft blue cone surrounding the dot.
- Tap the blue and white compass icon on the right side of the map to bring up the blue dot if you can’t see it. Moreover, on iPhone/iPad, it appears as a triangle with its point upward. But, on Android, it appears as a round target with four protruding lines.
- Zoom in for a closer look by double-tapping the blue dot. Moreover, the pinching motion can also be used to zoom in or out.
- You can move the map by dragging your finger across it. Re-centering to your present location can be done by tapping the compass in the bottom right corner.
- Drop A Pin by Tapping and Holding The Blue Dot.
Once the red pushpin is over the blue dot, you can lift your finger. Further, you’ll see a panel with location-specific information.
- Swipe Up on The Dropped Pin Panel.
Depending on the size of your screen, it may be on the side or bottom of the map. Further, when you do this, the map enlarges to provide details about your position, including your street address and your latitude and longitude coordinates.
Computer
To know what is my location on the computer, follow the instructions:
- Open A Browser and Navigate To https://Maps.Google.Com.
To find your location in Google Maps, use any current web browser, including Safari, Chrome, or Edge.
- Choose The Target Icon That is Blue and White.
It’s close to the map’s bottom-right corner. Moreover, your current location will be indicated with a blue dot on the map when this re-centers it to show it.
- If you haven’t enabled Location Services yet, you’ll get a message telling you to do so immediately. Here’s how
- Windows: Go to Start > Settings > Privacy > Location, then toggle the first two switches in the right panel to the On position.
- macOS: Go to Apple menu > System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy > Location Services, then check the boxes next to “Enable Location Services” and “Safari.”
- On The Map, Right-click The Blue Location Dot.
A context menu will expand.
- Go to The Menu and Tap What’s Here?
This displays the address and latitude/longitude of your present location in a box at the bottom end of the map.
- For Further Information, Click The Address.
You’ll get it at the bottom of the map. Doing so will expand a panel on the left that includes further information and sharing and saving options.
How to Calibrate Google Maps
You may need to adjust Google Maps if you discover that your location is inaccurately shown there. Moreover, your tracking will be fixed, and your location will be updated in Google Maps.
Find your current location by opening the Google Maps app first. Further, you can use the target-shaped Your location button at the bottom right of the screen to do this.
Tap the blue dot that depicts you on the map now. Moreover, a blue cone in front of it should appear, facing the way your phone is pointed.
With several options, including the chance to share your location, this will open the Your Location menu. Further, select the Calibrate button from here; it has a tiny compass next to it.
Google Maps will instruct you to tilt and move your phone in a figure-eight manner. Follow the directions, and click Done when the compass precision reads high or better.
