The Madonna biopic was set to star Julia Garner as the singer. The team cancelled it due to some reasons. Ozark actor Garner got the role in June 2022, and Madonna put herself to direct the project. They believed Garner could beat rivals Florence Pugh and Sydney Sweeney to the role. According to Variety, the film, which would have charted the singer’s life, is no longer in development due to the singer’s forthcoming world tour.
Madonna Biopic starring Julia Garner has been cancelled

The biopic was announced in 2020. Juno was the writer and director, and Diablo Cody had Amy Pascal attached as producer. Madonna signed as a director with Julia Garner in the lead role.
Garner did the role of Ruth Langmore in Netflix’s crime drama Ozark, for which she received widespread critical acclaim and two Primetime Emmy Awards, as well as a Golden Globe Award nomination.
More recently, everyone praised her role as Russian-born German con artist Anna Delvey in Netflix’s miniseries Inventing Anna. She received further Emmy and Golden Globe nominations.
The actress won the role over stars such as Florence Pugh (Black Widow), Alexia Demie (Euphoria) and Odessa Young (Shirley), as well as musicians Bebe Rexha and Sky Ferreira.
In a 2022 interview with Variety, Madonna said it was important for her to make “an extraordinary film” as a result of her “extraordinary life”.
Julia Garner Became Madonna’s Final Choice To Play Her
The casting was undoubtedly the most laborious task. The search for the perfect actress to play the pop icon was far and wide. The town’s up-and-coming actresses and music artists lined up for the audition. So some of the names are Florence Pugh, Odessa Young, and Julia Garner. Euphoria’s breakout Alexa Demie and the pop musicians Bebe Rexha and Sky Ferreira.
The audition was a week-long session of singing and choreography lessons. They redesigned and flushed out the best candidate. Under the watchful eye of Madonna and her choreographer, she finally handed the role to ‘Ozark’ fame Julia Garner. The project isn’t happening now, but it doesn’t mean it will stay dead and buried forever. Madonna plans on returning to work on the movie shortly.

Madonna, A mix of Talent & Controversies
From continuing to remain on the top, to come out strong from some of the harshest controversies, Madonna is truly a force in herself. Besides her various accolades, the star had a rank as the greatest woman in music by VH1 and as the greatest music video artist ever by MTV and Billboard. Rolling Stone also listed her among its greatest artists and greatest songwriters of all time.
Recently, Madonna got into a rather serious controversy after the Ethiopian World Federation (EWF). People asked the Malawi government to look at her NGO, “Rising Malawi”. The 64-year-old pop star got hate for trafficking children from Malawi through her non-profit organisation, “Raising Malawi”.
Madonna’s NGO, “Raising Malawi”, claims to support orphans and vulnerable children by providing health and educational programs. People accused the pop star of using children for social experiments. On the other hand, Madonna claims that she has a soft spot for African kids.
On her biopic, Universal Films announced in 2020 that the film was under early development with Madonna as co-writer and director. But again, the media house worked on two films Blonde Ambition with Elyse Hollander writing the screenplay.
Though industry executives praised Hollander’s script, also, it couldn’t please Madonna, and she indefinitely postponed it. Of being the one to co-write and direct her biopic, Madonna told in a previous interview: “I’ve had an extraordinary life, I must make an incredible film. It was also a preemptive walkout because a lot of people were trying to make movies about me.
