Hulu’s Saint X is a psychological thriller series that premiered on April 26. It takes inspiration from real-life crime cases but is not based on a true story. The show revolves around the disappearance and death of a young woman on a fictional Caribbean island. Her family seeks answers despite conflicting stories and unclear timelines.
Audiences have wondered if “Saint X” is based on a true story, but it isn’t. However, the series draws parallels to the real-life case of Natalee Holloway, who went missing while on vacation in Aruba in 2005. Let’s explore the true story of Natalee Holloway and the current status of her case.
Who is Natalee?

Natalee Holloway was born on Oct. 21, 1986, in Mountain Brook, AL. She lived with her mother after her parent’s divorce and excelled as an honours student and dancer at Mountain Brook High School. Natalee had a full scholarship to study premed at the University of Alabama after graduation.
Before starting college in the fall, Natalee decided to go on a group trip to celebrate her graduation. Unfortunately, just six days after her graduation on May 24, she disappeared without a trace. Nobody could have predicted such a shocking turn of events.
The Mystery
Natalee joined 124 classmates for a post-graduation trip to Aruba on May 26, 2005. They enjoyed the beach, spent time with friends, and partied at local clubs. According to Natalee’s friend Claire, it was a fun-filled vacation where they spent the whole day in the water and had a great time with their friends on the beautiful island.
On May 30, 2005, when it was time to go home, Natalee didn’t show up at the airport, which worried her friends. They hadn’t seen her since she left Carlos ‘n Charlie’s with three young men – Joran van der Sloot, Deepak Kalpoe, and Satish Kalpoe.
The Search
When Natalee’s mother, Beth, received the alarming call from chaperone Jody Bearman, she and Natalee’s father, Dave, immediately flew to Aruba to find their daughter. Moreover, at the same time, investigators worked to determine Natalee’s whereabouts and gather information about people who might be involved. Furthermore, on June 1, a search team was formed, including tourists, locals, the Aruban police, a Texas volunteer team, and even F-16 fighter planes.
Authorities arrested Joran van der Sloot and the Kalpoe brothers on June 9, 2005. Authorities released the Kalpoe brothers on July 4, 2005. They released Van der Sloot in September 2005. They arrested the trio again in November 2007 and released them in December 2007. In a recorded conversation, Van der Sloot confessed to having sex with Natalee on the beach and disposing of her body but later recanted his statement, claiming it was a lie.

The Case Today
Furthermore, the police picked up van der Sloot again in 2010. It was because he murdered 21-year-old Stephany Flores Ramirez in Peru. Moreover, van der Sloot carried out the murder on the fifth anniversary of Natalee’s disappearance. In addition to this, the Kalpoe brothers still live in Aruba. But Natalee’s parents have never received an answer.
During their investigation, the police also found some bone fragments. Later analysis revealed they did not belong to Natalee. The case remains a mystery for people all around.
