When you invest your money in a Hi Point Carbine 9mm, you get a weapon that sits at the economy end of the scale. Setting you back just $300 or so, it’s a no-frills option that gets the job done, but don’t for a second think that there aren’t a ton of aftermarket add-ons for you to use and make your new rifle a bit sexier – because there are!
So, for all your Hi Point 995 owners and fans out there, we’re now going to look at some of the many enhancements that are available for this popular carbine. So sit back, buckle up and let’s get started!
Red Dot Sights & Scopes
If you’re the kind of person that’s happy with the factory-installed iron sights, then great. If not, the picatinny rail on top of the Hi Point Carbine 9mm allows you to swap them out for any sort of glass or scope that you choose to use.
One thing that you do have to consider when talking about the standard picatinny rail is that it’s made from a plastic polymer. While it’s ok to use and will likely be fine, you may want to beef things up a bit with something a little sturdier – which brings us very neatly to our next add-on.
Aluminum Picatinny Rails
You can invest in aluminum picatinny rails for both the top of the carbine as well as the underside of the stock. Typically anodised to make it super-corrosion-resistant, they offer a metal-on-metal connection that always feels better than plastic-on-metal.
So, whether you’re thinking of adding a laser or scope, you should be also thinking of replacing the rails so you get a good, tight fit.
New Charging Handle
As the owner of a Hi Point Carbine 9mm, you’ll almost certainly know which replacements are desirable and which are ‘must-haves’. The 995’s charging handle fits into this category, as it’s too small and fiddly, especially if you happen to be wearing gloves while carrying it.
Available are aluminum charging handles that are not only sturdier, but around twice the size. There’s also a rather nice Delrin plastic option that’s even bigger, making charging that much easier for the user.
The Mag Release Button
Last on our list of after-market additions to your Hi Point 995 is the replacement mag release button. There’s no other way of putting this – the one from the factory is hard to reach, spongy, and so small that it’s hard to find – especially so when wearing gloves.
If you change nothing else, then you should change the mag release button because it really is that bad and replacing it will stop you from swearing when trying to take out the mag.
A World of Upgrades Available for the Hi Point Carbine 9mm
There are a ton of upgrades possible when buying a Hi Point 995, and they turn what is a nice, sturdy, yet basic carbine into a weapon you’ll simply love using. We’ve only touched upon what’s possible, as there are silencers, tripods, slings and more to enjoy, so get out there and enjoy them!
