The goods and services tax has been implemented for the 1st of July 2017. So here we go, let’s talk about our Nation driving towards a fulfilling development. Here we will look at the procedure to get your GST registration done forever. So get ready, budding entrepreneurs, it is your time to shine. This article will make things easier for you. Before we dive right into the process, let’s look at certain other basics.
GST for Service Providers
Service providers in India are exempt from registration if they engage in interstate or intrastate supply of goods and have a turnover of fewer than 20 lakhs. The decision was made at the 23rd GST council meeting, and it modifies an earlier rule that required inter-state suppliers to register for GST and file returns regardless of their turnover.
If you intend to start a new business with multiple branches, you must obtain separate GST registrations from each state and each branch. In the case of multiple business verticals, each vertical requires its own registration.
How to Register?
Step 1: Your Application
- The first step is to obtain a Temporary Registration Number (TRN) (TRN). You will need a valid mobile number (an India number), an email address, and a PAN (Permanent Account Number) for the business to obtain this.
- Go to the official GST portal – https://www.gst.gov.in/ – and select Services > Registration > New Registration under the Services tab. You can also apply for GST using our special Amazon offer by clicking here.
- Enter all of the requested information (including your PAN number), email address, and mobile number on the Registration page.
- After you’ve filled out the form, click the Proceed button. You will receive two different OTPs on your mobile and email in order to verify your mobile number and email address. The OTP is only valid for 10 minutes. You can regenerate the OTP if necessary.
- At the end of this process, your Temporary Reference number will be generated.
- To use this number, go to Services > Registration > New Registration and select the Temporary Reference Number (TRN) radio button to log in with the TRN.
- Enter the generated TRN in the Temporary Reference Number (TRN) field and the captcha text as shown on the screen.
- Following that, you will be prompted to verify your OTP once more. This is not the same as the previous OTP; please enter the new OTP received. The same OTP will be sent to the verified mobile number and email address.
- This will take you to the page “My Saved Applications.” You must fill out the entire form and submit it within 15 days. Your number and saved form will be deleted as of a result. Proceed to Part II by clicking the Edit button.
Step 2: Filling the Form
- The form has ten sections/tabs. To access that section, please click on the appropriate tab. Before submitting the form, please consult with your CA/Tax Consultant/GST Practitioner.
Step 3: Your Digital Signature
- To validate your GST application, you must digitally sign the form. Please keep in mind that DSC is required for all corporations and limited liability partnerships.
- Only the digital signature of the Authorized Signatory specified in the GST registration form can be registered and used.
- Please refer to Part IV if you wish to verify the form using other available methods (rather than DSC).
- If you want to use a Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) to sign the document, please follow the steps below: Please ensure that your computer has DSC software installed.
- If you need a DSC, you can get in touch with any of the certifying authorities listed on http://www.cca.gov.in/cca/.
Step 4: Verification
- You may submit the application using: Verification using DSC: Please see the preceding section.

Registration Certificate
Are you still wondering about your GST number? Now, you do not have to worry about ‘What is GSTIN Number?’ Because you just got it!
- When finished, an Application Reference Number (ARN) will be generated and sent to your mobile phone and email address. You can use this to track the status of your application (Services > Registration > Track Application).
- Once your application status is “Approved,” you will receive an email and SMS informing you that the GSTIN has been generated and providing you with a temporary user name (which will be your GSTIN number) and password to log in to the GST website.
- When logging into the GST portal with the temporary username and password you received, go to the “Login” page and then click on the “First-time login” option at the bottom of the login page. After you enter the temporary user name and password that was provided to you and click on the “Login” option, you will be prompted to change the username and password for future use.
- Within 3-5 days, you will be able to download your Registration Certificate. To access your dashboard, log in using your valid credentials on the www.gst.gov.in website, go to Services > User Services > View or Download Certificates, and click the Download button.
