Millions of people around the world love crime fiction series. This has somewhat of a unique appeal to reckon with. Hence countless people have shown immense love for the Mindhunter. The director is none other than David Fincher. Thus it is bound to have an intriguing premise to reckon with.
The director has presented us with two very fascinating seasons. It has been explored a lot in these seasons. Hence fans have grown a base of affection for it. Naturally many were wondering whether season 3 is coming or not.
Unfortunately, season 3 isn’t coming. Yes, we know this is disappointing. If you wish to know more then keep on reading. We shall explore why this series isn’t returning for a third season. But first, let us figure out what its current situation was.
The series was on indefinite hold
The Mindhunter series was on indefinite hold after the second season. Hence naturally there wasn’t much happening in this regard. The impatience of fans continued to grow. This is natural considering the sheer popularity of this show.
You see, crime fiction shows have a sheer appeal at large. It tends to cater to a deeper part of ourselves. Hence many people are attracted to such shows. The same was the case for this one.
But unfortunately, the number of fans wasn’t enough. Albeit you might be a fan, the actual number needed for the show to bring a third season was not satisfactory. Hence the director said in an interview the following:
“I’m very proud of the first two seasons. But it’s a very expensive show and, in the eyes of Netflix, we didn’t attract enough of an audience to justify such an investment. I don’t blame them, they took risks to get the show off the ground, gave me the means to do Mank the way I wanted to do it,”
“And they allowed me to venture down new paths with The Killer. It’s a blessing to be able to work with people who are capable of boldness. The day our desires are not the same, we have to be honest about parting ways,”
Any director wishes to have autonomy and a proper budget to execute a show. Since that will no longer be possible, hence the show is canceled.
David Fincher was busy with other projects till now. He will continue to work on other endeavors. Hence if you are a Fincher fan, you can wait for his other works.
The premise of the show
For those who are not familiar with the premise of the show, let us discuss a bit about that. See, the entire show was about serial killers. More specifically it is about the minds and psyche of serial killers. Such killers have always fascinated us. Therefore, the show worked on this appeal.
Statement of Netflix
Netflix in 2020 said :
“David is focused on directing his first Netflix film Mank and on producing the second season of Love, Death and Robots. He may revisit Mindhunter again in the future, but in the meantime felt it wasn’t fair to the actors to hold them from seeking other work while he was exploring new work of his own.”
However, as is evident now, things will not be working out.
