High-level Overwatch 2 players have come under burning from the community for “for according to” in lower ranks to create YouTube content. This is usually done by creating new accounts and climbing the ranks quickly.
In ‘rank up’ competitions, where pros and top players play on a new account while giving advice and outlining their thinking processes as they advance, Overwatch 2 content creators frequently participate, similar to previous competitive games.
However, some players are currently becoming dissatisfied with how Overwatch 2 mail is created on YouTube, and they specifically dislike one kind of video: the “Unranked to Grandmasters” concept.
In these videos, content producers create new accounts and begin competitive play to catch up to where they were on their primary accounts. However, many Overwatch 2 players have called this technique “unimpressive,” and it’s also being blamed for expanding the number of smurf profiles in the game.
There’s nothing to understand from watching Top 500 players play in Silver, a gamer wrote in a well-liked post on the Overwatch subreddit. It’s simply thousands of hours of mechanical expertise against uninformed players. It’s destroying much Overwatch content because so many YouTubers are doing it. Unranked to GM is the worst kind of smurfing, which I oppose.
It doesn’t matter that YouTubers try to make it sound like smurfing isn’t happening by calling it “educational.” The moment the contest begins, it’s very much finished. Observing a player ranked among the top 500 go from Normals to GM is not impressive. Wow, you competed against players that were FAR BELOW YOU RANK and eventually reached it. Thank you for destroying so many games with low elo.
By the article, several additional players stated that they no longer found this content interesting. Another player observed that the tips offered in these videos weren’t helpful for lower-ranked players, saying: I saw a Bronze to Grandmasters clip where the man simply melted everybody he looked at.
You can’t kill guys so quickly; attempting to copy this playstyle as a metal player will be pointless. Another person expressed a wish for Overwatch video producers to make climbing up substantially more difficult for themselves or to spend more time watching other people’s footage so they can study it in-game.
The videos would have been better if they only examined actual Gold players. The issue is that a Top 500 player can perform actions that a Gold player cannot. Alternatively, they could put obstacles in their path to make themselves lost or struggle in some way during games so that people can learn.
As they prepare for big changes to the competitive system, Blizzard has stated their commitment to lowering the number of smurf accounts in the game.
