Tyre Nichols, is a 29-year-old Black man. Five Memphis Police Department officers beat Tyre during a traffic stop. That leads him to death three days later. However, most people across the nation are protesting against the meaningless death of Nichols. Moreover, it seems to have racist undertones. Also, some people are beginning to spread rumours. As Nichols might have been involved with the wife of one of the officers.
Although there has been no official word about any possible motives behind the actions of the officers. Although the rumour that he might be romantically involved with one of the alleged murderer’s wives.
It went uncontrolled on the internet. “#TyreNichols having an affair with one of the officers’ wives…#street justice,” one Twitter user said, while another noted, “Tyre Nichols initial stop video… some people are saying this happened because he was also dealing with one of the officer’s wives.”
What Happened with Tyre Nichols?
On Jan. 7, 2023, police stopped Tyre Nichols at a traffic light on suspicion of reckless driving. This encounter resulted in a “confrontation” . So the police said he ran away before the cop ultimately arrested him. However, Nichols’ family said he had suffered a severe beating at the hands of these officers. That ultimately caused his death three days later. Body camera footage and lookout cameras corroborate the family’s account. It shows the officers kicking and punching Nichols in the head, restraining him, using pepper spray, and striking him multiple times with a baton.
Weeks after Nichols’ death, on Jan. 27, 2023, five fired officers involved in the beating charge with second-degree murder. Demetrius Haley was one of those officers, and his apparent previous connection to Nichols has come under scrutiny.
On Jan. 30, 2023, several tweets and memes went viral. It is claiming that Haley and Nichols had a connection before the assault, and allegedly through Haley’s ex-girlfriend or ex-wife. Reportedly Nichols’ stepfather denied these rumours. So far, none of the claims has been confirmed by an independent investigation, or any other parties involved.
Was Tyre Nichols’ Girlfriend a Wife of Memphis Cop?
Various claims that Nichols was in a relationship with their former girlfriend of Haley. The girlfriend, these claims say, worked with Nichols at FedEx.
Media claimed that following the alleged beating of Nichols. Haley took images of Nichols to send to his partner as a warning.
Sir Maejor, an actor and model, tweeted on Monday: “I am being told that Tyre Nichols was in a relationship with and worked at a Memphis FedEx with Memphis Police Demetrius Halys’s ex-girlfriend & baby mama. After the beating Officer Halys took a picture of Tyre Nichols’ face and sent it to his baby mama.”
He qualified soon after that tweet. It has been viewed nearly 60,000 times, the statements were “merely speculations” and the information “has not been confirmed.”
The Facts
Newsreel could not find evidence to substantiate the claim that Nichols was in a relationship with the former girlfriend or ex-wife of Haley. Newsweek has contacted Crump and the Memphis Police Department for comment.
According to John Best, general manager of school radio and TV for Memphis-Shelby County Schools. As per his LinkedIn profile, the parents are aware of the rumour and believe it to not be true.
