In an effort to prioritize their children’s well-being, he chose to forgive Brandi for her infidelity and move forward. However, despite this attempt at reconciliation, Jason’s unhappiness in the marriage persisted. This eventually led him to file for divorce on November 15, 2016.
However, she found it increasingly challenging to cope with the impending divorce and the daunting prospect of being a single mother. Moreover, her struggles were compounded by a pre-existing diagnosis of depression and anxiety.
You must also know that she has been receiving treatment for depression. The divorce filing further exacerbated her mental health issues, causing her to withdraw from her family and friends, and grow increasingly isolated.
The Dark Day
On November 17, 2016, just two days following Jason’s divorce filing, Brandi committed a shocking and unimaginable act. That day, the couple seemingly had an ordinary day together. They attended their daughter’s dance recital and ran errands, which included Brandi purchasing pipe cleaners for their son’s school project.
Yet, what remained hidden from Jason was the fact that, during this time, Brandi had also acquired a combat knife. After their return home, the family had dinner. As was normal, Jason helped with the children’s evening routines, unaware that it would be the last time he would see them alive.
The chilling event unfolded at 4:35 a.m. when a distressing call reached 911. Brandi Worley, with an eerie calmness as reported by WTTV, informed the dispatcher, that she had killed her children and had also stabbed herself.
When asked why she had committed such an unfathomable act, stated that her husband had filed for divorce and wanted to take her kids. Tragically, Brandi had used the knife she had purchased earlier in the day to fatally stab her own children. She had also inflicted a stab wound upon herself, although it did not prove to be fatal.
As Jason lay sleeping in the basement, he was abruptly roused by the agonizing cries of his mother-in-law. Hastening up the stairs, he was confronted with a horrifying sight. Brandi, seated in a chair in the kitchen, reportedly turned to him with an unsettling composure and stated that he could no longer take her children from her.
The Aftermath
Following the horrifying incident, Brandi was initially charged with two felony counts of murder. However, she initially entered a not-guilty plea with the intention of pursuing an insanity defence. Subsequently, she was required to undergo a psychiatric evaluation before a competency hearing could take place.
However, before the competency hearing occurred, she had a change of heart and chose to plead guilty to the murders of Tyler and Charlee. As a result of her guilty plea, she was convicted and subsequently sentenced to 120 years in prison, with 55 years for Tyler’s murder and 65 years for Charlee’s murder.
