Lars Mittank, a 28-year-old German national, was waiting for a trip home at the Varna Airport in Bulgaria on July 8, 2014. According to reports, Mittank yelled while getting up from his chair, “I don’t want to die here. I had to leave this place right away.” Then, dropping his wallet and cell phone to the ground, he started running.
Mittank went into the woods and was never seen again. He rushed along the airport hallway, out the door, and over the airport grounds, according to eyewitness accounts that were confirmed by security camera evidence. He then scaled a fence and ran into a densely forested area.
Authorities released CCTV footage from the airport to learn more about Mittank or his disappearance. Over 16 million people watched the video when it was eventually released on YouTube. Even though there are many speculations regarding what might have happened to Mittank, neither he nor his remains have ever been discovered.
Mittank and a few friends had taken a flight from Berlin to Bulgaria on June 30, 2014, where they intended to spend one month in the resort community of Golden Sands. According to Vizaca, Mittank and his pals were having a fantastic time up until they got into a fight about their preferred soccer teams with another group of men.
Mittank became separated from his buddies during the argument, and it is said that four of the other men attacked him and hit him in the side of the head.
Lars Mittank was Injured During An Altercation

The extent of the wound was initially unknown to Lars Mittank. However, he was ultimately compelled to seek medical care. Ultimately, it was determined that he may have had a concussion and a perforated eardrum.
In addition to giving Mittank an antibiotic, the doctor advised him to avoid flying because the pressure could cause excruciating agony or further harm his eardrum. He had no choice but to remain when his friends boarded their trip to Germany as planned.
Mittank checked out of the resort and made reservations at a less expensive lodging option. In a later interview, one of Mittank’s pals said he was “relaxed” and appeared to be in a “good mood” when they left him at the hotel. But later that evening, he dialed his mother Sandra’s number in a panic.
When Sandra called her son, she claimed she “could hear his heart pumping over the phone” and that she believed he was “in danger.” in the conversation, Mittank claimed he was afraid for his life and thought a bunch of men was following him. Additionally, he requested that she cancel his debit and credit cards because he was concerned about being robbed.
Mittank was seen by video cameras pacing the hotel lobby late that night and early the next morning, gazing out the windows, and even briefly “hiding” inside an elevator.
Lars Mittank Ran Out of The Airport and Was Never Seen Again
In the video, Lars Mittank can be seen responding restlessly. He eventually leaves the hotel around 1:00 a.m. He eventually came back, but it is still determined what he was doing or where he was during that time.
On July 8, 2014, in the early hours, Mittank called a cab to drive him to the Varna Airport for a flight back to Germany. He texted his mother to inform her of his arrival at the airport and to confirm his safety. He went to the airport’s medical facility to consult a physician about whether his eardrum had sufficiently recovered to allow him to fly.

According to Dr. Kosta Kostov, Mittank questioned him about the medication the other doctor prescribed. He added that Mittank appeared “nervous and unpredictable” while he was conducting the medical examination.
When a worker from the building site entered the clinic, Mittank was seated and waiting. When Mittank saw the stranger, Vizaca claims he shook. Then he got up and left quickly.
The peculiar circumstances surrounding Mittank’s disappearance and the fact that he was never found have given rise to several speculations and theories about what might have happened.
The main concern is whether Mittank was being stalked or followed by a group of men. Who attacked Mittank that night that left him hurt is still unknown.
Lars Mittank’s Disappearance was Never Solved
In 2019, a truck driver took up a man in Dresden, Germany, and brought him to Brandenburg, near Lars Mittank’s hometown of Berlin. According to the truck driver, the man remarkably resembled an earlier Mittank, as stated by Berlin Spectator.
Sandra Mittank has been made aware of countless identical allegations that her son has been spotted in a variety of places around the globe in the years since he vanished. She has optimism that her son might still be alive because of the reports. She believes he may have experienced memory loss, though, according to the Berlin Spectator.
Summing Up
The BKA and Federal Criminal Police Office of Germany have been involved in Mittank’s case, among other law enforcement organisations. Many people were interested in the case on social media, and news shows covered it in Bulgaria, Germany, and the US.
Sadly, most sighting reports have been disproven, and Mittank has never been found again.
